[语法] “3 times longer”是2倍长还是3倍长？

先做个热身：以下三句分别表示什么意思？
1. A is 3 times as long as B.
2. A is 3 times longer than B.
3. A is 3 times the length of B.
A是B的2倍，3倍，还是4倍？
这三句都是同一个意思，也就是A是B的三倍长，A= BX3。下面介绍三种倍数的表达方法：
一、倍数表达之1：A是B的N倍
1. N times as long (形容词/副词原形) as B.
The Yangtze River is almost three times as long as the Pearl River.
长江几乎是珠江的三倍长。
2. N times longer（形容词/副词比较级）than B.
The Yangtze River is three times longer than the Pearl River.
长江是珠江的三倍长。
Sound travels nearly 3 times faster in copper than in lead.
声音在铜中的传播速度为是在铅中的3倍。
3. N times the length （形容词/副词的名词形式）of B.
The Yangtze River is three times the size of the Pearl River.
长江是珠江长度的三倍。
He is five times your age.
他是你年龄的5倍。
二、倍数表达之2：直接用动词表示倍数
1. double：增加至2倍
Membership almost doubled in two years.
两年内会员数目几乎翻了一番。
2. triple/treble：增加至3倍
Output should triple by next year.
到明年产量应增至三倍。
3. quadruple：增加至4倍
Sales have quadrupled in the last five years.
过去五年中，销售额已增长至以前的四倍。
三、倍数表达3：fold
句型：N-fold increase/decrease
说明：N-fold increase表示增加了N-1倍，比如 two-fold increase 表示增加了一倍（增加到原来的两倍），即“是原来的2倍”。
Smokers are even worse, with a two-fold increase in risk.
吸烟男性更糟糕，风险增加了一倍。
The advantage of the products is a three-fold decrease in weight.
这些产品的优点是重量减轻了2/3。
