PART A Reading Aloud

In 1905, sitting alone on a city bus, Einstein looks back at the clock tower and what he sees is astonishing. In his imagination, as he reaches the speed of light, the hands of the clock appear frozen in time. Einstein knows that back at the clock tower, time is passing normally. But on Einstein's light-speed bus, the light from the clock can no longer catch up to him. The faster he races through space, the slower he moves through time. This sparks the birth of Einstein's “Special Theory of Relativity”, which says that space and time are deeply connected.

1905年，爱因斯坦独自一人坐在城市公交车上，回头看着钟楼，他所看到的是惊人的。

M: Hi, Mary. I went to your dorm last night, but didn't find you. Where were you?

W: Oh, I was at the Student Union last night till 10:30 pm.

M: Why so late?

W: I was in a meeting and it lasted for three hours. I was so tired.

M: Three hours? It was quite long. What was this meeting about?

W: It was about a reading project we're going to carry out on campus. The head teacher was also at the meeting to support us.

M: Sounds interesting. Will all the students participate in the reading project?

W: Not really. We will give it a try on all the Grade 11 students in this term.

提问①：你们将如何组织这个阅读活动?

翻译：How will you organize the reading activity?

电脑回答：Well, we're going to put the students in different reading groups. We will give them a theme each week with a reading list. Each group will produce a reading report every two weeks. We may also organize other activities, for example, story telling competition and drama show.

A Green T-shirt

Tom had a twin brother who went lost at the age of five.

Tom did not have much memory of his brother.

He only remembered vaguely that they were both in green T-shirt the day his twin brother was missing.

One day, when he was walking along the street, a green T-shirt in the store window attracted his attention.

He went in and reached out for the T-shirt.

Just then, he heard a gentle voice behind him saying, “It's a nice T-shirt. I really like it."

The voice sounded like his own.

Tom looked back and saw a young man.

The young man's face surprised him.

And the young man was also astonished when he saw Tom's face.

It was as if they were looking into a mirror.

The two looked just the same.

They immediately talked to each other.

In their conversation, the young man told Tom that he was adopted and couldn't only remember much about his biological family.

He remembered that he was in a green T-shirt when he got on the wrong bus and left his family from then on.

On hearing this, Tom got very excited and burst into tears, “I am your brother.”

汤姆有一个在五岁时走丢了的孪生兄弟。

汤姆对他哥哥没有多少记忆。

他只依稀记得，他孪生兄弟失踪那天，他们都穿着绿色T恤。

一天，当他在街上散步时，商店橱窗里的一件绿色T恤引起了他的注意。

他进去伸手去拿那件T恤衫。

就在这时，他听到身后有个温柔的声音说：“这件T恤不错。我真的很喜欢。”

这个声音听起来像他自己的。

汤姆回头一看，看见一个年轻人。

年轻人的脸令他吃惊。

年轻人看到汤姆的脸也很惊讶。

他们好像在照镜子。

这两个人看起来一模一样。

他们立即互相交谈。

在他们的谈话中，这个年轻人告诉汤姆，他是被收养的，记不起自己的亲生家庭。

他记得他上错车时穿着绿色T恤，从此离开了家人。

听到这些，汤姆激动得哭了起来，“我是你弟弟。”
