Passage One
Questions 1 to 3 are based on the following passage.
Like climbing trees? Now there's a course for that
If you are tired of rock climbing, there's now an alternative: tree climbing. And there is also a course to help you master the skills of climbing trees.
A university in northwest China's Shaanxi Province has started a new curriculum, offering professional tree-climbing lessons.
Northwest University in Xi'an is among a handful of schools that are now becoming a part of this growing fad. The university started offering the course after it became popular at Xiamen University, which introduced it first, making tree climbing a part of the institution's syllabus in 2012.
Launched as part of the university's outdoor sports training program, the course is divided into six sections and has 16 lessons to complete during a semester. Students will learn the techniques of climbing and rappelling trees, along with field survival methods and first-aid training.
At Northwest, more than 20 postgraduate students have opted for the course as one of their electives as soon as it was offered this month.
"I've received the training twice, and it's interesting," Liu Meizhou, a postgraduate chemistry student told Huashang Daily. "I'd like to go climbing and camping with friends, but I had not received any professional training in the past."
And it's just not students who are excited about the new course.
Shaanxi Education Bureau also published a post on its official Weibo account, praising the university's effort in providing a chance for the students to learn more about ecology and nature, which could aid in future research projects.
After the bureau released some of the photos of students clinging on trees and maneuvering the ropes, many netizens have shown interest in enrolling in such a class.
"There is finally a course like this. I've been expecting it for years," said a user named @Chouxiangpaiejianbihua on Weibo.
"I think everyone can learn from the course, especially first-aid skills," commented @TuesdayYcklin.
"Climbing trees has always been a sport for children in the village and it is also a part of the sporting events, too," posted @Jingmomo.
There are also reports that some of the high schools in Suzhou city, east China's Jiangsu Province, have introduced similar courses.
