香港中文大学对话会上，女孩用普通话发言遭辱骂丨CUHK campus discussion ends up in chaos

A student's speech in a discussion held Oct 10 by the Chinese University of Hong Kong president was repeatedly interrupted because she expressed her views in Mandarin. 

A video showing the student's interrupted speech was widely circulated online. The related topic was read more than 510 million times on Weibo by Friday afternoon.

President Rocky S. Tuan initiated the open discussion at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall on Thursday night to bridge differences but talks were constantly interrupted by radical protesters. 

"If I'm not strong enough to face your shouts, I would be really timid," said the girl in the video. "You guys keep blaming others, but have you pondered on the fact that it's exactly you who are destroying rule of law, freedom and democracy in Hong Kong."

The student called on her peers to respect her freedom of speech but she was met with curses. Many students at the scene wore masks and carried laser pens.

"I love China. I love Hong Kong. It's my sincere hope that Hong Kong can be restored to the state it used to be," she said.

The Thursday event was attended by hundreds of students but ended in chaos. 

Some students from the mainland applauded after Tuan responded to students' questions, in an attempt to show respect to the professor.

Radical protestors, however, took photos of those who clapped for Tuan. Afraid of retaliation and having their personal information spread online, mainland students left before the discussions ended, according to a Global Times report.

At another discussion with students on Oct 3, Tuan was assaulted by a group of students who called for a campus strike.

Some radical students stood on tables and threw "hell money" at Tuan's face.

They also occupied the administration building and shattered glass panels to "request dialogue", footage circulating online showed.
