多一份力 聚一束光 | Weekend Where to go

The other day, I came across a 17th-century painting by an anonymous artist.


几天前,我看到一幅300多年前的油画,它的创作者并未在历史上留下姓名。



It depicts a horrifying scene of Ludgate, then the westernmost gate in London Wall, in flames. It reflects a great fire which consumed much of London's central areas from Sept 2 to Sept 5 in 1666.


这件作品描绘了一幅骇人的景象:当时位于伦敦墙最西端的拉德盖特门火光冲天。这幅画创作的背景是发生在1666年的伦敦大火,火灾始于9月2日,延烧数日,摧毁了伦敦的大部分中心城区,直到5日才逐渐熄灭。


The conflagration might have helped end the outbreak of the Great Plague that ravaged the city for a year. Rats and fleas, which spread the epidemic, were killed. Houses where infections occurred were burned down.


蔓延的火情对当时的伦敦来说可谓雪上加霜,因为这座城市已经被一场严重的瘟疫折磨达一年之久。不过人们后来发现,由于传播病毒的老鼠和跳蚤被烧死,发生传染的房屋被烧毁,这场大火反而对疫情的结束起到了帮助。

The brightness and beauty of life can be found in art. But through art we also see the fears of people who face natural disasters, wars and contagious diseases, as well as how they summon up the courage to fight back.


艺术不仅仅让我们感受到生命的灵与美,艺术作品也记录着人类在面对自然灾害、战争和传染病时的恐惧,和充满勇气的回击。

Today, I'd like to share with you artworks created by teachers and students from Central Academy of Fine Arts and Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University. They shine a spotlight on the efforts in coping with the coronavirus outbreak.


今天就和大家分享一些来自中央美术学院和清华大学美术学院师生的作品,这些创作聚焦时下的我们如何抗疫防疫。



Wuhan native Lyu Zhongyuan, a retired teacher from the Central Academy, has expressed his mixed feelings of worry and hope for Hubei province's capital, with a watercolor titled Homeland that shows rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds to shine on the city's main railway station.   


吕中元先生是中央美院退休教师,也是武汉人。在他的这幅水彩画《故乡》中,几缕阳光透过厚厚的云层、洒落在武汉火车站;从中我们能感受到吕老师对家乡的担忧和冀望。



Li Li, also a CAFA teacher, was inspired by pottery figurines of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) while creating a series of comics, which center on the journey of a soldier escorting Han diplomats to Xiyu, the western region in ancient China.


同样执教于央美的李礼老师受到西汉兵士陶俑的启发,创作了一系列以小偶人为主角的漫画,围绕小偶人护卫汉朝使节出使西域的情节展开。


Li has developed a new series in which the soldier — symbolizing the People's Liberation Army — battles the virus.   


而在新的作品中,小偶人成为抗击疫魔的军人的象征。

While preparing this posting, I happened to read a posting by Li Kejia, a student of design at CAFA, in which she mentioned a friend in her hometown of Wuhan, who felt very upset because the place where they grew up became the epicenter of the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak. One late night, Li's friend walked to banks of the Yangtze River, which he has felt emotionally attached to since childhood, hoping to gain some comfort.


在准备今天这篇推送的时候,我碰巧读到了央美设计学院李可佳同学的一篇推文。在文中她提到了武汉家乡的一位朋友,他因为从小生长的城市变成了疫区而感到十分沮丧;然后在一个深夜,这位朋友步行去了长江边,希望这条让他自小就有着情感羁绊的河流能带来安慰。

He is quoted as saying, "There were sparse lights on the river. Still, I could hear the sound of waves and boats."


他说道;“江上的灯光很稀疏。但还是能听到,江水的声音,轮船的声音。”


"Along the riverside, I removed my face mask, and breathed deeply. All was well enough."


“能够在长江边取下口罩,自由地呼吸。也够了。”
