96 DHZH students received awards from UKMT
Dulwich International High School Zhuhai yet again established itself as a school for academic excellence with a large number of talented mathematicians successfully competed the United Kingdom Maths Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge.
A total 96 DHZH students have been awarded with certificates from the UKMT, including 8 Gold, 41 Silver and 47 Bronze.
UKMT Maths Challenge is an annual national competition with complex, demanding and intriguing questions, which are designed to stimulate interest in Mathematics. The 3 levels cover secondary school age and together they attract over annual 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges in the UK and internationally .
Leading the way is our Year 12 student David Z with an outstanding score of 107 out of 125. David received a Gold Certificate, Best in Year Award and Best in School Award. He is also qualified for the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1.
A host of students also managed to secure Gold certificates for their excellent efforts and accomplishments; they are Peter G, Sean S, Wendy L, Ben Y, Ronnie W, Hally W and Bill W.
Special mention must go to our youngest candidate, James Y in Year 10, who volunteered to take part in this competition, also receiving a Silver certificate.
The idea behind the challenge is to practice mathematical thinking and applications, rather than just to tackle the style of questions found in textbooks. The level of thinking required is also suitable for many degree subjects and these kinds of achievements will add value to students’ university applications. This impressive set of results is a testament to the dedication being put in by both students and staff in the Maths department. Thanks to all the students and teachers, well done and congratulations!
