DC Heroes Descend On Beijing's Temple of Heaven
The entire starring line-up of the upcoming Justice League film were seen repaying the respects of their host by appreciating a cultural landmark during a visit to Beijing this week.
Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and Jason Momoa had come to town for a gala opening earlier this week when they took in some culture at one of Beijing's most hallowed cultural institutions.
Despite local warning alerts issued for both fog and smog, the DC heroes were seen mingling among other visitors to Tiantan Park (Temple of Heaven), in some cases displaying a massive size difference.
In contrast to the more refined environment of a red carpet earlier in the week, the celebrities were seen indulging with some selfies at the Temple of Heaven, as though there aren't enough photographs of them already.
Judging by other comic book movies, the upcoming Nov 17 release of Justice League should prove to be another box office winner. This year's release of Wonder Woman and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice were popular with Chinese audiences, although they both trail the massive 1.464 box office of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
But despite the heated rivalry between DC and Marvel over comic book movie supremacy, it may be that Chinese audiences don't see much difference between them. The Chinese title for Justice League is 正义联盟 (zhèngyì liánméng), a literal translation that happens to be very similar to the translation for Avengers (复仇者联盟, fùchóuzhě liánméng), something that translates back into English as "Revengers' League."
If our intrepid heroes want to win the Chinese box office they'll need to cater well to their hosts. During previous film promotions, Mark Ruffalo gave a huge compliment to the Beijing Metro.

Fun fact: Although nearly all other superheroes are given a literal translation for their name, Ray Fisher's Cyborg somehow got translated into Chinese as the underwhelming "Steel Bones" (钢骨 gāng gǔ) ... which, technically, is not false.
Our heroes will have their hands full. Marvel's Thor: Ragnorok is set to open in China on Nov 3.
