Largest Cherry Orchid Debuts at Annual Cherry Blossom Festival
Beijing is looking to become a definitive destination for cherry blossom enthusiasts, as the city opens its largest cherry orchard in time for the annual spring flowering.
After three years of preparation, the Blue Manor Cherry Blossom Park finally opens to the public today, Mar 28.

At five times the number of trees of Yuyuantan Park, Blue Manor has become Beijing's largest cherry blossom park. As a trade-off, its easterly position south of the Capital Airport (map here: j.map.baidu.com/tAK2O) means that this new cherry blossom park is further removed from the city center than the readily subway-accessible Yuyuantan.
In addition to its crop of cherry trees that include imported specimens from Wuhan, Blues Manor will also feature music, dance, and cosplay festivals during the spring bloom.
With 30 varieties of 2,400 cherry trees, Yuyuantan Park has served as a reliable cherry blossom-viewing destination for local residents since the 1970s when Beijing received the trees as diplomatic gifts from Japan.
Seen throughout the city, the spring blossoms arrived with last week's sudden rise in temperature that comes just a week after the capital received a record-breaking snowfall.
