Chinese Traditions: What a Mole Says About Your Personality

Chenkuang H. theBeijinger 2019-08-09

In the Chinese face-reading tradition, moles on the face reveal interesting secrets about your personality and can even predict your destiny depending on where the marks appear. Far from being forgotten, these traditions still play an important role today and are often taken into account when people decide whether to have a mole removed.

Apart from the specific links to particular aspects of your personality, there are several general beliefs about what kind of moles are considered auspicious: hidden moles, moles with hairs, and dark-colored moles are lucky, also moles located on the right side usually are auspicious compared to left-sided ones.

Here’s a list of mole interpretations based on placement. Only big moles count, not freckles or other little marks on the skin!

Forehead
A mole located on the forehead is often regarded as a positive attribute because it indicates intelligence and energy. People with this mark are likely to have a successful career, especially when it’s located in the center of the forehead, because that indicates strong potential for making money. But a mole on the left side of the forehead means that person is a worrier.

Eyebrow
A mole located within the eyebrow is also a good sign, signifying abundant wealth. A mole on the right side of the eyebrow means success after hard work, while on the left side it suggests the person may have a tendency to develop addictions.

Eyes
A mole below the eyes is called “tear mole” and signifies suffering and bitterness in life. It usually comes top of the list for removal.

Ear
A mole on the ear suggests wisdom and indicates a good marriage if it’s located on the left.

Nose
People with a mole on the nose tend to be bad-tempered and profligate, but a mole next to your nostrils indicates self-control and the ability to save money.

Cheeks
A mole on either cheek means the person is a conversationalist and easygoing, but could potentially be a bigmouth that gives away secrets.

Lips
People with moles on their lips are usually very talkative. It also indicates they enjoy eating and might develop health problems or become overweight.

Chin
A mole on the chin signifies determination; people with such a mole tend to succeed in business through being naturally persuasive, which in the case of Chairman Mao (pictured above), certainly applies.
