The Chaoyang District government is on a mission: that no toilet should be left unseen by your mobile phone! To make sure that all public bathrooms are labeled, photographed, and visible from your screen, the Chaoyang District Urban Management Committee has dispatched a team of toilet surveyors and administrators on a rather smelly field trip. These intrepid washroom tech wizards and cartographers of comfort partnered with Amaps to map toilets and allow users to search and review all nearby facilities. Needless to say, George Costanza would be proud.
Here’s what these hardworking public servants discovered after beating the pavement for your bum:
As it turns out, you have ample options for places to go in Chaoyang! The survey found that there are 1,684 public toilets in the area. In order to search for said bathrooms, press “附近 >厕所” (fùjìn > cèsuǒ, nearby > toilet,) in Amaps and the closest options will appear on the map.
The mapped toilets can be updated in realtime, meaning if a toilet is being repaired or is temporarily closed, your bladder won’t unknowingly suffer the consequences.
Following internal recordkeeping, the surveyors photographed these visually appealing abodes – allowing would-be users to evaluate if it’s a worthy washroom:
Once bathrooms are listed on Amaps, users can leave reviews evaluating their experience. Curious what Beijingers have to say on this essential subject? See below for a few snapshots of randomly selected users that had hilariously positive things to say about their blissful bathrooms.
Feeling inspired? Go out and rate your favorite (or least favorite) bathroom for yourself!
