Universal Opening Days Sell Out, Ticket Purchases Unstable

Universal Studios Beijing began selling tickets at Midnight this morning for the first few weeks of opening. Ticket’s for the first day – Sep 20 – sold out through September within just 30 minutes. Tickets for Sep 21 then sold out by midday.Later in the day, the app removed the RMB 1200 "VIP Experience" ticket options, but big spenders aren't completely out of luck as the RMB 1700 option remains.As of publishing time, tickets are still available for the latter days of September and into the rest of the year, but often at a major markup – October dates are currently ranging from RMB 528-748, up from the lowest price of RMB 418. (Prices are discounted for children and seniors).

However, some users have reported that booking remains finicky through the official app. It may take several minutes to load the prices to begin with, and in some cases, tickets have been refunded without explanation. Netizens have also complained of similar problems on third-party booking platforms.

That leaves excited would-be visitors with a dilemma: whether to wait until the app stabilizes and risk their preferred date selling out, or to stay glued to the app until successfully purchasing their tickets. In any case, it’s clear that the park is going to be crowded for some time.
