Temperatures are on the Rise Over the Weekend: The heat has arrived as temperatures are forecast to peak at around 38 C on Jun 25, according to Beijing’s meteorological authority. Beijing Youth Daily reports that temperatures have been on the rise since Jun 23, even with the sudden onset of rain on Thursday afternoon. From this weekend onward, temperatures will drop a bit but will hover around 30-35 C through till next Sunday.



New High-Speed Rail Line Cuts Travel Time from Beijing to Chongqing: A new rail route connecting Zhengzhou in Henan to the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing is cutting the time it takes to travel from the capital to Chongqing, reports China Daily. Whereas it used to take eight to nine hours to travel between the two cities, the time has now been reduced to six hours and 46 minutes thanks to the new rail line.



Section of Grand Canal Connecting Beijing to Hebei Opens to Tourists: The Beijing-Hebei section of the Grand Canal has been completed this week, reports Beijing Daily. The new section, which spans 62 km, is slated to be open to tourists traveling within the region when anti-epidemic controls are lifted.



New Mini Program Seeks to Preserve Great Wall Online: A WeChat mini program unveiled on Jun 11 seeks to provide a virtual tour of the Great Wall, according to China Daily. The program, called 云游长城 Yúnyóu chángchéng (aka "Great Wall E-tour" in English), offers a simulated experience of climbing the Wall while helping in preservation work, as a means of teaching users about conservation of important cultural artifacts and relics.
