Beijing Bars Recognized at DRiNK Awards

After being postponed due to Covid woes last year, the 2022 National DRiNK Awards went off without a hitch in Shanghai, with two Beijing bars and a Beijing F&B legend taking home awards.

Hide & Seek – Best Bar Design & Best Restaurant Bar

Opened in 2021 by the lake in Lido Garden, this vast establishment features design elements seemingly inspired by those found in the Southwestern US, with tan adobe, stone walls, and quiet lighting making for a relaxing atmosphere. Much like the venue itself, the food and drink menus are vast as well, with the drinks specifically ranging from classic cocktails to signature concoctions of all kinds.

Peiping Machine (Fangjia Branch) – Best Beer Menu

Although it now has a number of branches around the capital, including one smack dab in the center of a city park, Peiping Machine’s original location inside a repurposed factory in Fangjia Hutong is still a must visit. Their selection of over 30 beers on tap boasts intriguing takes on classic brews, a number of IPAs, and more out there flavors like smoked plum in ale form.

Ethan Liu – Founders Award

Following his work as a brand ambassador for Cognac Ferrand, Ethan Liu came to Beijing to work as a senior bar consultant for  Singapore’s Proof & Company until 2020. That being said, Liu's capital roots go further back than that, with him stating in a 2017 interview that he’d had his first drink at Banana in Beijing in the '90s, and even worked as manager at Flamme and D Lounge. Liu has done consulting and bar training for luxury bars and hotels across China, as well as with a number of Beijing bars, with one of his more notable projects being his work with UNION at The Opposite House on their opening and concept design.
