We are always on the lookout for new food in the capital and were delighted to see that Q MEX, Beersmith, and Tribe all have some new summer additions on their menus. Given the recent heat wave, it should be no surprise that there are light options like salads, salads, and more salads, but the heat can't stop a lil' bit of creativity, like a fondue burger and a blueberry pizza.

Q MEX

Their Mexican Fondue Burger has all the meaty, cheesy goodness with a little spicy kick

Among the new dishes on Q MEX’s summer menu we have to, of course, start with their new burger, which we are sure is going to turn some heads in Beijing’s burger-lover community. Called the Mexican Fondue Burger (RMB 88) it's two Australian Angus beef patties, double cheese, jalapenos, mayonnaise, and special burger sauce sandwiched between a burger bun. Simple enough, but then it's cut in half then served in a pool of sizzling jalapeno cheese sauce, bacon bits and pico de gallo which you can then dip the burger in – certainly a less messy alternative than burgers where cheese sauce is poured on top. I don’t know about you, but it sounds pretty banging.

The Chopped Mole Salads are just bursting with color and flavor

Other newbies include Balsamic and Bacon Guacamole (RMB 58), Chopped Mole Salad (Flank Steak RMB 78, Grilled Chicken RMB 70), and a range of what Q Mex calls Mexican Skewers: Chipotle Chicken (RMB 45), BBQ Pork (RMB 48) and Spicy Shrimp (RMB 58). Given how good the Mexican Chicken Skewers they had on their spring menu were, these new skewers are definitely going to be worth a try.

Beersmith

The new XL Platter is sure to satisfy any meat lovers

Those who love a good sharing platter will be excited by Beersmith’s summer menu updates. They’ve added the brand new XL Grilled Platter (RMB 598), a protein extravaganza featuring Australian rib-eye steak, lamb chops, Iberico pork BBQ ribs, and king prawns. These are complimented by nacho chips, roasted tomatoes, pickles, Jack Daniels peppercorn gravy, and chimichurri sauce.

Their Party Snack Platter (RMB 288) has also seen an upgrade with the addition of Iberian ham alongside Calabrese salami, smoked Emmental sausage, mortadella, pecan baked brie, pickles, olives, grapes, and grissini sticks.

The Weissmisu is an usual twist on the classic tiramisu

If all of the above is a bit too heavy, then their new salads are a better bet. You've got a Butter Herbs Prawn Caesar Salad (RMB 118), Grilled Chicken Breast Salad (RMB 88), and Arugula Burrata Salad (RMB 98).

Delving back into the rich side of things, a dish we'd certainly like for every dessert is the Weissmisu (RMB 58). This twist on tiramisu has everything there is to love about the classic, albeit with the coffee liqueur swapped out for weissbier.

Along with new food for summer, Beersmith are also bringing back their Wednesday Ladies Night for the summer period where ladies can enjoy free beer and cider from 5.30-7.30pm.

Tribe

The Broaden My Pork Shoulder Wrap is stuffed with healthy goodness

Healthy food spot Tribe’s annual summer menu has some tasty new dishes up for grabs. These include the super healthy Cowpea Salad (RMB 68) featuring cowpeas – a nutty tasting legume that's a summer specialty at Tribe – green tomatoes, yellow tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, kale, Boston lettuce, cheese, queen olives, dill all finished off with a chia seed mustard dressing. If you’re looking for something a little more substantial then the Broaden My Pork Shoulder Wrap (RMB 78) is a safe bet, a Korean style wrap which sees a homemade mixed grain tortilla stuffed with pork shoulder, pickled onion, pickled chilli, kimchi, kale, and garlic sauce.

The Ballsy Blueberry Pizza may prove to be a divisive dish

Now this last one may make any Italians reading cry out in pain, but we think it sounds like an interesting concept, it’s the Ballsy Blueberry Pizza (RMB 88). Here they’ve taken one of their cauliflower pizza bases and loaded it up with blueberries, caramelized onions, mozzarella, cheddar cheese, and Chinese toon sprouts. The sweetness of the blueberries and caramelized onions make the taste of this pizza verge on being a dessert which may be a big plus for some people, while others may say keep fruit off my pizza!
