A Huge Piece of Glass Fell Off Shanghai Tower
By Virginia Werner
Today's forecast? Cloudy with a chance of glass shard rain.
We've recieved reports that a sizable chunk of glass just fell off Shanghai Tower, the newly-completed second tallest building in the world, shattering on the street below. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, although some cars were reportedly damaged.
We'll be sure to give the building a very wide berth next time we're in Lujiazui...
UPDATE: A piece of curtain wall glass dropped from the 76th floor when workers with the Shenyang Yuanda Aluminum Industry Engineering Co. Ltd, a supplier of the curtain wall, were replacing the glass that was damaged, the Shanghai Tower said in a statement, according to the Shanghai Daily.
It crashed beside a driver who was just getting out of his car on Dongtai Lu. Some broken glass scraps jumped onto the foot of the driver, causing injuries. The driver was sent to hospital.
