Beijing Approves Massive $36 Billion Railway Project
By Justine Lopez
China will invest RMB274 billion (USD36 billion) in a railway project that will connect Beijing with surrounding cities, Bloomberg reports. The goal is to improve transportation between the capital and cities in the north.
As part of the proposal, nine railway lines will soon link Beijing to Tianjin, numerous cities in Hebei province, and Beijing’s highly-anticipated new airport.
The new railway lines are expected to be completed by 2020 and will extend a total of 1,100 kilometers.
As part of China's project to expand and improve upon Beijing’s railway lines, there are also plans to build additional train stations in smaller cities and towns surrounding Beijing and to improve transportation between transit hubs in order to make the transit system more efficient.
