Trial Run for Shanghai's Yan'an Lu Tram to Begin after CNY
By Rachel Deason
Shanghai Transportation Commission announced yesterday that the new Yan'an Lu Tram will begin trial runs in February after Chinese New Year.
The lanes began construction last June and run through the middle of the road. Although the lanes have been painted red to differentiate them, traffic police have reported confusion surrounding the lanes, with drivers attempting to use them to turn left or right. Such drivers are receiving warnings but are not being fined.
The buses will be available every three to five minutes and are expected to run at a speed of 18-19 kilometers per hour, twice as fast as other city buses. Upon completion, the bus lanes will be 17.5 kilometers long and connect Huangpu, Jing’an, Changing and Minhang districts.
The lanes will be open to regular vehicles on weekends and national holidays.
