Dogtown Bar is Closing This Month

As the saying goes, "every dog has his day," and for street-side bar and tacqueria Dogtown, those days are numbered. According to owner Dave Seminsky, the landlord has refused to renew the lease or rent the space out to new tenants, meaning the final day of drinking will be May 27

Not to be downtrodden, Seminsky isn't salty about the demise of his beloved bar. "I'm actually not too sad; that place got me into more trouble than you know," he recalls of the often boisterous Shaanxi Bei Lu watering hole.

"But I did make a buttload of money off it. The rent was only RMB4,500 a month, so you can imagine what our profit was like. Managing the neighbors and bureaus was a pain."

Moving forward, Seminsky, who also owns the cafe and coffee bean distributor Sumerian, tells us his next project will be of a more philanthropic nature. "I'm developing a product, Ezra, [with technology that] takes the by-product of a coffee berry, which is commonly used as waste, and turns it into a food product... creating an additional income stream for farmers."

"This machine also captures the moisture from the berries and creates an additional water source for the farmers."

Seminsky tells us that Ezra is currently available on tap in Sumerian, for those who want taste.
