Wake me up when September ends.
The East Asian rainy season, aka the plum rain, is officially here. According to the weather bureau, the city will be frequented by storms until flood season ends almost four months from now, on September 30.
This year’s rainy season will be more intense than previous years, with 800 millimeters of rain expected compared with previous average of 684 millimeters. Ninety-seven places in Shanghai have been deemed by the flood-prevention authorities to be at high risk.
Apart from three predicted typhoons, high-temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius will be scorching the city for up to 28 days this year, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Showers are expected in Shanghai all week long, culminating with a thunderstorm on Sunday.
