Imports of meat, produce, wine and other goods from the US are about to get way more expensive, thanks to new tariffs announced by the Chinese government earlier today. 

First proposed two weeks ago, this retaliatory measure comes in response to US President Donald Trump's recently enacted steel and aluminium tariffs on China and other countries. Trump has also threatened to impose further protective duties on USD50-60 billion worth of Chinese goods, and is said to be targeting technology products next. (A full list may be released as soon as this week).

Earlier today, China's Ministry of Commerce announced that 120 American products ranging from fruits to wines would receive tariffs of 15 percent, while an additional eight goods — an assortment of pork and aluminium products — would be slapped with 25 percent tariffs. The tariffs are effective immediately.

The wine tariffs will likely hit California's wine industry the hardest, while the pork tariffs are expected to be a major blow to farming regions in states that heavily supported Trump in the 2016 US Presidential election.
