第二届天水摄影双年展邀请展由观看艺术空间作为策展机构策划,由德国、法国、美国、中国和香港等国家和地区的著名策展人组成策展团队,邀请了国内外85位知名艺术家的900余幅(组)作品参加展览。


View Art Space is the curatorial institution of the invitational exhibition unit of the Second Image of Silk Road-Tianshui Photography Biennale. A curatorial team has been set up by famous curators from Germany, France, the United States, China and Hong Kong. This exhibition invited 85 well-known artists at home and abroad more than 900 (set) works to attend.

摄影的终结


摄影已经成为一种大众现象,每天都有数以百万计的照片在增加,以至于无法量化。仅仅在Instagram 上,2011 到2017 年间,已经发布了大约700 亿张图片。据统计,数十亿计的图片每天都在社交网络和应用程序中传播,比如Facebook、Instagram 和Snapchat。它以白噪声的形式出现,不再可控,也不可消费。


由于这样和那样的原因,欧洲知识分子和艺术评论家中有不少人认为摄影已经死了,因为它们越来越多地失去了真实性和相关性。


这对于过度消费的西方社会来说可能是真的也可能不是真的。但对于中国我并没有看到这一点。为什么?很简单的原因,好奇心是其中强大的驱动力。当世界上没有更多的好奇心时,它就是一切的终结。在这里,在东方世界,好奇心似乎取之不尽。


从这个意义上说,天水摄影双年展不仅仅是一个摄影节——它也是一种好奇心和创造力的庆典。让我们简单地享受这一点,让我们敞开胸怀,互相启发。只有这样,这个精彩的双年展才得以实现。

THE END OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Photographic images have become a mass phenomenon. Their occurrence can no longer be quantified numerically. Millions of pictures are added every day. On Instagram alone, between 2011 and 2017, around 70 billion pictures have been published. Statistics estimate that billions of images are spread across social networks and apps like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat every day. It has taken the form of white noise. No longer controllable nor consumable.


For these and other reasons quite a few among European intellectuals and art critics believe that photography is dead, as they are losing more and more authenticity and relevance.


This might be true or not for the surfeited western society, but for China I don't see that. Why? Because of a simple element which is a powerful engine: curiosity. When there's no more curiosity in the world it is the end of everything. Here, in the eastern world, curiosity seems inexhaustible.


In that sense, Tianshui Biennale is not only a festival of Photography – it's also a celebration of curiosity and creativity. Let us simply enjoy that, let’s be openminded and inspire each other. Then, only then, this wonderful Biennale comes to its fulfillment.

曾与意大利和法国的知名设计师合作共事

参与多个国际艺术展览和艺术节的策展工作

获得多个德国和欧洲的奖项

MARTIN RENDEL (GERMANY)

Martin Rendel is a cultural manager and lecturer, as well as board chairman of K26 Art Association in Cologne and Beijing. His main focus is the cultural exchange between China and Germany. Besides that he has continuously published books – in cooperation with sociologists, ethnologists, city developers, journalists and artists – on various subjects.
