Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider)
青骑士 之 德国艺术运动
Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) was a group of artists united in Munich, Germany. The group was formed in 1911 by a number of Russian emigrants, including Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky, Marianne von Werefkin, and native German artists, such as Franz Marc, August Macke and Gabriele Münter.
青骑士是一群艺术家在德国慕尼黑组建的，成员有来自俄罗斯的移民，包括康定斯基、雅弗林斯基、玛丽安冯韦勒金；德国本土艺术家，如弗兰茨·马尔克、奥古斯特·马克和加布里埃尔·蒙特。

Der Blaue Reiter painters were gathered around an idea that color and form carried spiritual values. The move into abstraction resulted from radically separating forms and colors into discrete elements of painting, or applying non-naturalistic colors to recognizable objects.
青骑士画家的思想是色彩和形式包含精神价值，向抽象主义的转变导致了从形式和颜色的彻底分离到使颜色分离出绘画元素，或者应用非自然的颜色使物体具有辨识度。
The name "Der Blaue Reiter" referred to Kandinsky and Marc's belief that blue was the most spiritual color and that the rider symbolized the ability to move beyond. The name of the movement is the title of a painting that Kandinsky created in 1903, a key motif in Kandinsky’s work: the horse and rider, which was for him a symbol for moving beyond realistic representation. The horse was also a prominent subject in Marc’s work, which centered on animals as symbols of rebirth.

A Journey to the World
of Native Americans

People lived in the United States long before the arrival of Christopher Columbus and the Europeans. These people and cultures are called Native Americans. Sometimes these peoples are referred to as Indians or American Indians. This is because when Columbus had first landed in America, he thought he had sailed all the way to the country of India. He called the locals Indians.
在哥伦布和欧洲人到达美国很久以前就有人类居住在这里了。这些人和他们的文化被称作本土美国人。有时这些人也被叫作印第安人或者美国印第安人。这是因为当哥伦布首次到达美国时，他以为自己到达了东方国家印度。所以他把当地人叫作印第安人。
The Native Americans did not write down or record their history, tradition and stories have been passed down within the tribes from generation to generation.

The primitive religions and traditions of the Native Americans was based on the culture of Animism. Animism is a religion based on the spiritual idea that the universe, and all natural objects within the universe, have souls or spirits.

It is believed that souls or spirits exist not only in humans but also in animals, plants, trees, rocks etc...

Native American totem pole: It welcomes peope in the entrance of Indian village. It will probably tell a story about the tribe.

The Indian tribes live in teepees. Teepees are a tent made of a cone-shaped wooden frame with a covering of buffalo hide. As a tribe moved from place to place, each family would bring their tipi poles and hide tent along with them.

Venice & its Carnival

Venice is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is situated across a group of 118 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by over 400 bridges. The islands are located in the shallow Venetian lagoon, an enclosed bay that lies between the mouths of the Po and the Piave rivers. Parts of Venice are renowned for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork. Venice has been known as the "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals."

Venice is known for its several important artistic movements, especially the Renaissance period and has played an important role in the history of symphonic and operatic music. It is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi.

The Carnival is an annual festival held in Venice for its elaborate masks. In the seventeenth century, the baroque carnival was a way to save the prestigious image of Venice in the world. It was very famous during the eighteenth century. In 1979, the Italian government decided to bring back the history and culture of Venice, and sought to use the traditional Carnival as the centerpiece of its efforts. Since then, approximately 3 million visitors come to Venice every year for the Carnival. One of the most important events is the contest for the most beautiful mask which is judged by a panel of international costume and fashion designers.
