A debt defaulter banned from high-speed trains and airplanes paid 11,200 yuan ($1,635) for a recent 1,700-kilometer taxi ride from Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, to Renhuai city, Southwest China's Guizhou province, Dushikuaibao reported on Thursday.

The man surnamed Liang was put on the backlist of people who do not comply with court rulings as he, as a guarantor, has yet to pay off loans of more than 8 million yuan when the borrowers failed to keep their commitment.

A few months ago, Liang, as a middleman, wanted to arrange deals between several leaders of restaurant association in Hangzhou and alcohol merchants in Renhuai on May 18. On the eve of the meeting, the leaders said they could not make it for some reasons.

He decided to keep his word to meet the merchants in Guizhou, but it was already early hours of the morning of the next day. Since trains and airplanes were not options, he decided to hail a car using the Didi Chuxing app.

Didi charged him 5,600 yuan for the 22-hour road trip.

The designated driver reached Liang later but said he could not drive for 22 hours and one more driver was needed and that extra money had to be paid in private.

Then they made a deal on a three-day round-trip, in which Liang agreed to hire another driver, who turned out to be the driver's mother, and pay her 1,000 yuan per day.

They arrived at the destination at around 3:00 am on May 19 and toll fee on the way cost Liang another 2,000 yuan.

However, the drivers did not drive him back to Hangzhou, which made Liang angry and he suffered a heart attack. Liang ended up in hospital for 45 days in Guizhou province.

During the convalescence and after he returned to Hangzhou, he kept on complaining to Didi and finally Didi responded.

According to the settlement, Liang will not have to pay the 5,600 yuan, and the driver was banned from taking orders on Didi for 30 days for charging Liang privately.
