I’ve paid some attention to the event. I’d say I know a little about the 19th congress event, based primarily on Chinese and foreign news sources, in conjunction with Wikipedia. This year, I’m interested in seeing who’ll remain on/be named to the Politburo Standing Committee and who’ll be the next generation of Chinese leaders.

Before talking about what interests me, I really want to express my fascination toward Chinese citizen; because I had never experienced euphoria and enthusiasm toward a national congress as festive and attentive as what I just experience with the 19th congress meeting. This really shows me how Chinese citizens really look up to the vision and mission enacted and strategized by the country prominent leaders.
The unique experience urges my curiosity to read more about ideas proposed throughout the meeting. National rejuvenation, culturally advanced, and moving toward high-quality developments are the keywords that really interest me. It gives deep senses about how the leaders of the nation are aware of the current state of China, where today’s China is no longer the same China several decades ago, and a paradigm shift is needed, especially regarding the Nation’s identity and dream. In my view, China is doing this through the best way to drives people forward—that is through inspiration. For example, President Xi said “Realizing our great dream demands a great struggle” does inspire me deeply.

I am interested in politics so it is of course a topic to talk about. Mr. Xi’s poverty eradication and 2-stage modernization plan interested me most. He mentioned that various measures that benefit the people have been implemented. The battle against poverty has made tremendous progress. The poverty headcount ratio dropped from 10.2% to 4%. The education system in central and western regions and rural areas have been tremendous improvements. And based on the basic achievements of modernization, China will strive until the middle of this century to make the nation a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful.

I do not actually know too much about the 19th national congress since I typically don't follow politics too thoroughly, but I did hear about president Xi's economic goals, which does sound like an interesting concept, especially how he wants to get rid of poverty. This would likely differ from the American methods to tackle poverty, so it would be interesting to see which approaches he takes.

Topics of the meeting I am highly interested in, are for example the strive of China to take center stage in global activities. Steps to achieve this, will be a continued opening to global markets or anti-corruption campaigns. From my point of view this clearly is a counterpoint to Donald Trump’s protective and populistic politics. Further I was positively surprised that Xi Jinping announced a “fight for blue skies”, thereby addressing the environmental pollution and air quality problems especially in Beijing.

I have paid pretty close attention to the event because there is not a great understanding how the Chinese government functions from the U.S. perspective. From my understanding, the government assembles every five years for a week to determine the party leaders and a refined constitution. Most of my understanding has come from western media.

你对中国的印象如何?你觉得未来中国发展会怎样?
I like China a lot! It has a great public transportation, friendly population and an incredible history and culture. I think China will only continue to grow and raise the standard of living, they are already working hard on reducing pollution which I respect a lot.

My first impression of China is that it is a very busy country. There are so many people in this country and the life here is very fast. So far I really like China. I enjoy most things here whether it’s the food, people or culture. I think China is going to be more and more international than it is right now and attract many more people from all around the world. I feel very proud to be in China right now and I hope to see more foreigners living in this country.密院本科生Richard Murray,

I really like China so far and I enjoy seeing new places and figuring things out while improving my Chinese :) I think that China in the future will be very impressive. China is moving at such a fast pace and seems to be really good about saying "ok, we will do this" and then doing whatever it is, that I think it will be very impressive.

China has been extremely benificial to be in! I think China is making large strides in technology very fast and it seems most Chinese people welcome the changes. For example, we do not have a system such as Alipay that is used by so many people. There are similar apps in America but very few people use them. To be able to use them everywhere is very convenient. The same can be said about such a widespread bike sharing system that allows one to park a bike anywhere. I am also very impressed by China's railways. The Chinese tourist industry also seems to be booming. All the places I have visited seem very well equiped to handle many people and I think that is very good. I think China will keep progressing and advancing their technology and I hope that America and China can learn to work better together in future endeavors.

I like China because living here is economically affordable and I can travel every week! I like night life downtown and also the cultural part of China. That’s really impressive because it’s older than any other culture in the world! The temples and rituals are interesting and help understanding the country. I think that China in the future will be a leader in ecology and industry. My China dream is visiting as many places as I can.

Regarding China, I like it very much. I especially enjoy seeing how China, even outside of Shanghai, has become something completely different from the country it was when I was young in the late eighties. I become very optimistic when I see how much China has managed to change. Moving forward, I think the future holds further increase in the quality of life and democratization. I'm hoping that China won't become caught up in striving to emulate instead of creating a future for themselves.
