Q:最初为什么选择在肯恩就读?在人文学院学习有什么感受?
A:温州肯恩大学全英文的教学和国际化的环境便是吸引我的最初理由,四年的时间证明了我和学校之间的双向奔赴是如此美妙。作为人文学院的一员,我感受其中活泼、灿烂、青春的人文气息,感激卓越的师资团队和共同追梦的同窗好友,书生意气,挥斥方遒,共我度过紧张、有趣、精彩、丰富的大学生活。

Q:大学四年期间,你是如何规划专业学习,并确定未来的专业发展方向?
A:回首往昔,我于小学时便与英语和语文结下了漫漫的缘分。我从小好读书朗诵与写作,一直来对语言在文艺作品中的百变应用情有独钟。温州肯恩大学以其优秀的全英文教育环境助我各方面茁壮成长。作为英语专业的学生,我在英语语言学和文学领域间交错涉猎,并融合国学,求索中西互通。我相信自己对语言学更有兴趣,因为其是一切人文构建交流进步之本。从而我愿以英语为媒介,延展对于语言的逐梦之旅,也希望为魅力四射的中文在国际舞台上更加绚烂多姿尽毫末之力。

Q:在校期间,你是否参加过科研项目或社会实践活动?有什么印象深刻的故事,以及对你的专业学习有什么助益吗?
A:我在大三暑假赴上海研学,参加有关儿童语言发展和双语的语言学研究项目,了解了关于双语、儿童语言发展、跨语言影响、数字技术和语言习得等更丰厚的知识。同时,我也更系统地学习了不同学术论文的类型,包括正式文献综述(Formal Literature Review),系统综述(Systematic Review),荟萃分析(Meta-Analysis)和实证研究(Empirical Study)。我更是在此次研学活动中完成了关于Emotional Closeness to Foreign Language Learning (对外语学习的情感亲近)的正式文献综述,这不仅进一步锻炼了我撰写学术论文的能力,同时明确了我的研究方向,为我在牛津大学能够继续攻读所选专业下意向的心理语言学和神经语言学模块搭建顺然的桥梁。另外,课余时间我常写些散文和短篇故事,积累后不断修改,或汇编成集,这不仅是我的爱好,也让我乐此不疲于语言文字的无穷变换。

Q:你对研究生毕业之后的职业规划是什么?
A:目前的打算是珍惜海外求学的机会,巩固与精进在语言学领域的知识储备与运用能力。在此之后,我可能会投入教育行业,将语言学奥妙的火炬传递给新兴一代。

Q:大学四年,是否有某个课程、项目或某位教授对你产生了深远影响,可以分享一下吗?
A:回顾整个大学生涯,每一位我有幸上过课程的教授都让我受益匪浅。要说其中与我升学方向联系紧密的,便是Professor Craig Blacklock,他的ENG3101给予我直接的关于Linguistics的介绍与启蒙,以及Professor Ian Baecht,他的ENG2101,ENG3080,ENG3021,ENG4120分别从不同的角度促进了我对英语的热爱,稳固了我继续探索更大的语言学领域的决心。

Q:在翻译工具和AI技术盛行的今天,有人认为英语专业前景堪忧。也有人说在英文授课的中外合作大学,没有必要选修英语专业。作为一名英专生,你怎么看?
A:我认为翻译工具和AI技术,对于英语专业的选择没有直面威胁。翻译软件和AI,不可否认为当今全球化生活下的密集人流接触,带来“快餐”式的便利。但语言始终是有温度的人性化交流和情感传递的最佳媒介,我们仍是在彼此的思想互动中收获更多字面以外的信息。就语言本身而言,其在特定的环境下有灵活的应用,无论文艺作品,传媒,还是社会实际的衍生等。此些其中的技巧,非翻译软件和AI能够精准把握和替代。以人为本,作为传统人文社科类项目的英语专业,恰恰有着久盛的内容待以不断挖掘,为学生们创造广阔的平台,去了解这全球第一流行使用语言的百变用武之地,包括英语语言的历史演变,结构,句法,语义词义,生活实践,文学修辞等。由此出发,在英文授课的中外合作大学学习非英语的专业,是视其为掌握其他知识的工具,而学习英语专业,是更为原汁原味地探索其蕴含的语言宝藏。
并且,温州肯恩大学的英语专业以其高度弹性的自由选修制度让学生在专攻英语的同时也能得到其他学科的熏陶,不乏开拓眼界。

A:感恩成为温州肯恩大学人文学院的一员,感谢有缘的诸位教授在课上给予的谆谆教导,“这世界有那么多人,多幸运,我有个我们”。望学弟学妹们呈后浪之姿,抓住兴趣,把牢目标,秉持个性,坚定信念。
拥有梦想的青春,相信一切皆有可能。

Q1:Why did you choose to study at Wenzhou-Kean? How do you feel about studying at College of Liberal Arts?
A:The all English-teaching and international environment of Wenzhou-Kean University were the initial reasons attracting me, and the four years have proved that the two-way efforts between me and the university are extremely fantastic. As a member of the College of Liberal Arts, I feel the positive, brilliant, and youthful atmosphere there, and I am grateful to the excellent faculty team and my fellows who pursue dreams together. The scholarly spirit and colorful opinions help me spend my university life with tension, fun, wonderfulness, and richness.
Q2:How did you plan your academic studies during your four years in WKU, and how did you determine your future career direction?
A:Looking back, I have had a long fate with English and Chinese subjects since I was in primary school. I have been fond of reading, reciting, and writing as a child, and I have always been struck by the changeable application of language in literary and artistic works. With the excellent English-teaching environment, Wenzhou-Kean University helps me thrive in diverse aspects. As an English major, I have interwoven the fields of English linguistics and literature, and I integrated Chinese studies to explore the interplay between China and the West. I believe I have more interest in linguistics because it is the foundation of all humanities construction and communication progress. Therefore, I am willing to use English as a medium to extend my dream journey of language, and I hope to make my little contribution to the enchanting Chinese language on the international stage.
Q3:Have you participated in any social practice activities or research projects? Do you think it is beneficial to your academic development and career planning?
A:In the summer vacation of my junior year, I went to Shanghai to take part in the project Child Language Development and Bilingualism, and I learned about more abundant knowledge of Bilingualism, Child Language Development, Cross-Linguistic Influence, Digital Technology and Language Learning and so on except my class time. Meanwhile, I also learned different types of academic papers more systematically, including Formal Literature Review, Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Empirical Study. In this research project, I individually completed a Formal Literature Review on Emotional Closeness to Foreign Language Learning, which not only further trained my ability to write academic papers, but also clarified my research direction, building a smooth bridge for me to continue studying Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics module of my chosen major at the University of Oxford. In addition, in my spare time, I often write some prose and short stories, which are constantly modified after accumulation, or compiled into collections. This is more than a hobby to me. I always enjoy the endless transformation of language and characters.
Q4:What’s your career plan after your graduate program?
A:My current plan is to cherish the opportunity to study abroad, consolidating and improving my knowledge reserve and application ability in the field of linguistics. Afterward, I may devote myself to education and pass on the torch of the mystery of linguistics to the new generation.
Q5:Is there any professor or event that has a profound impact on your life in WKU and even your future life. Can you share the stories with us?
A:Looking back at my entire university life, I have benefited from every professor I had the luck to take courses with. To mention those having a close connection with my postgraduate direction, I would like to thank Professor Craig Blacklock, whose ENG3101 directly gave me the introduction and inspiration of linguistics, and Professor Ian Baecht, whose ENG2101, ENG3080, ENG3021, and ENG4120 have promoted my love for English from diverse angles and strengthened my determination to continue exploring the larger field of linguistics.
Q6:With the popularity of translation tools and AI technology, some believe that English major is not necessary anymore. Others say that in Sino-foreign joint universities where English is the teaching language, there is no need to major in English. As an English major, what is your opinion on that?
A:I think translation tools and AI technology are not a direct threat to the choice of English majors. Translation software and AI, undeniably, bring “fast food”-like convenience to the dense human contact in today’s globalized life. Yet language has always been the best medium for humanized communication and emotional transmission with warmth, and we gain more than literal information from the interaction of ideas between each other. As far as language itself is concerned, it has flexible application in specific contexts, no matter in literary works, media, or derivative social reality. The skills inside them cannot be accurately grasped and replaced by translation software and AI. Oriented from human, as a traditional humanities and social science program, English major has a long history of content to be kept on exploring, creating a broad platform for students to understand the world’s most widely used language, including the historical evolution of English language, its structure, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, literary rhetoric and so on. Starting from this point, studying non-English majors in Sino-foreign cooperative universities is to master other knowledge by using the English language as a tool, while studying the English major is to more authentically explore its essential treasures.
Moreover, with a highly flexible free elective choosing system, the English major of Wenzhou-Kean University allows students to study other subjects besides specializing in English, which creates no lack of vision.
Q7:As you’re graduating from WKU soon, what would you like to say to our college professors, or fellow students?
A:I am grateful to be a member of the College of Liberal Arts at Wenzhou-Kean University, and I thank all the professors I had the pleasure of taking courses for their tireless teaching. “There are so many people in the world, how lucky I am that I have us”. Hope the younger WKUers stand in the rear wave posture, seize the interest, hold the goal, keep personality, and firm faith.
