该研究团队前期工作表明连续四晚的转轮接触会导致DG中增殖细胞的数量增加。研究人员首先通过研究持续时间较短的几次机体活动来研究这种激活之前的变化特征。研究发现,至少需要3个晚上的机体活动才能产生显著的促增殖反应(以胸腺嘧啶核苷类似物BrdU测量)(图1)。研究人员进一步应用了双重胸腺嘧啶核苷类似物(CldU,IDU)标记确定DG细胞增殖的主要驱动因素,实验结果表明机体体力活动刺激一群静息但可激活的神经原细胞进入增殖,而不影响其存活和在神经原阶段的分布(图1)。
