理工生修炼手册 | 王家瑜：机会留给有准备的人，牛津直博不是梦

 

化学工程与工艺专业的王家瑜同学成功地通过了面试，在一月份收到了牛津大学直博的录取通知书。王家瑜和小编分享到，在高考填志愿以前，看到宁诺好多学长学姐升学去了我理想中的学校，没想到4年之后，我也变成了他们。

人物介绍

王家瑜在选专业的时候，并没有明确未来的发展方向，单纯因为高中阶段化学成绩不错，也喜欢工程，就选择了化学工程与工艺专业。（不禁想要吐槽一下这个决定做的有些草率），但是事实证明，对于他来说，这的确是一个正确的选择。

从小就对建模和航模感兴趣的王家瑜在化工设计的学习中游刃有余。因为化工的学习中，有很大一块就是工业生产流程的设计，并且，因为每一年学习内容的难度都是递增的，所以同学们可以比较容易地适应和逐步掌握课程知识。例如，在大二的工程周（Engineering Week）中，王家瑜就第一次接触到设计一个化工厂这样的综合项目。

我们需要在一周的时间里完成一个小规模的化工厂设计，因为是小组设计项目，在有限的时间内小组合作变得尤为重要，需要提前准备并且在这周内一直贪早摸黑直到周五Pre（展示）给老师听。这一系列的任务都锻炼了大家的自主学习能力，也教会了大家如何统筹安排时间以及小组合作。

从大二的工程周（Engineering Week）到大四的毕业设计，每一年学生都需要以小组或者个人为单位，完成工艺设计项目，到毕业的时候，学生已经可以掌握一个中型化工厂的整体设计和建造了。将学到的知识综合应用到实际生产和实践当中，不仅可以强化学习到的知识和技能，学生也可以接触到工业界的发展趋势。

王家瑜特别强调说，就像《一球成名》中提到的，人是跑不过球的，需要的是团队间的传球和配合。通过小组的项目，我们不断加强了自己的沟通技能和团队合作的技能。

与那些在后场倒脚的同学不同，王家瑜的积极争取，为他赢得了跟着大牛做科研的机会。大学四年，王家瑜的成绩一直不是最拔尖的那一个，但是，他是如何申请成功牛津的直博项目的呢？这可能要归功于王家瑜丰富的科研实习经验了。从大二的暑假开始，王家瑜先后参加了宁波诺丁汉大学和英国本部的暑期科研实习项目，跟着导师做科研的经历让王家瑜真实感受到了做科研这项颇为“枯燥”的工作的同时，还伴随着巨大的成就感。

例如，王家瑜曾经在大二的暑假参加了诺丁汉新材料研究院的暑期科研项目，跟着导师和他的博士生一起，研究如何提高油页岩出产的产量，其间王家瑜帮助老师做一些测量不同粘度的硅油混合之后的混合物粘度变化的工作，也坚定了他之后读博的念头。

谈及申请牛津直博的面试，王家瑜也是做了足够充足的功课。认真对待每一次考核的王家瑜竟然读完了10+的论文和一整本书，在了解完足够的学术背景知识之后，自然拥有了胸有成竹的自信。因此，王家瑜表示，投入足够的时间和经历，并且大胆去争取的同学，才能在尝试和机会中试错，并且发现自己擅长和喜欢的领域。

Jiayu Wang had successfully got an offer for the direct entry to the PhD Programme from the University of Oxford, study how the brain regulates blood flow and the relative importance of the microvascular and microvascular flows in this control.

Jiayu has heard about the good further studies prospects of UNNC graduates before, some of them even go to his dream schools. He didn’t expect that he would be one of them after the 4 years study.

Since his childhood, he has been very interested in making models. In the Chemical Engineering programme, design reaction devices and even the whole process of chemicals’ production are the core of the programme. Therefore, Jiayu has been full of passion in the very beginning.

He mentioned that the programme was conducted in a reasonable pace. For example, in the Engineering Week in the Qualifying Year, he first time designed a small-sized plant in a group. But in the final year project, all the student are able to design a medium-sized chemical plant already. Therefore, through all these projects, students are able to practice the knowledge and skills they learnt in the lectures and laboratories. Their communication, team working and presentation skills are further enhanced.

Jiayu said both UNNC and UNUK have offered them many opportunities to do research in the undergraduate studies. These experiences give Jiayu a big scenario of what is it like to be a researcher. After that, he firmly decided to do the research in bioengineering.

His research experiences well prop his application for the PhD programme. As Louis Pasteur once said chance favours only the prepared mind.
