You will be given a brief talk (1 hr) about the unique non-profit classical music concert venue in Wedding, Berlin - Piano Salon Christophori by the owner andorganizer Christoph Schrieber before enjoying the rare Jazz intepretation of Bach’s masterpiece Goldberg Variation by the young and talented American Jazz pianist Dan Tepfer.
↓ Venue outside
Piano Salon Christophori is not only a workshop where pianos are repaired and restored but also a concert venue where internationally renowned musicians perform in an incredibly intimate and beautiful environment. The workshop/venue takes its name from Bartolomeo di Francesco Cristofori, the patron of piano lounges. The atmosphere of the salon is warm and inviting and you can never find elsewhere in the world. When you walk into the salon, you feel it’s isolated from the outside world by all the pianos and their secrets surrounding you.
↓ venue inside
Because of its intimacy, when the concert begins, the entire room is silent, completely enraptured by the music. It is nothing like being in a major and grand concert hall. There is nothing to distract you from the concert. It’s rare to be in an environment where everyone is completely present in the moment.
↓ owner of the venue
The venue has enough room for 100-200 audiences. Reservation is required for the concert but it won’t secure you a seat there. It’s important to arrive a bit early and choose your seat as the room fills up quickly on a first come first serve basis. At the end of the concert, on your way out you are suggested to make a donation for your “ticket”, the recommended amount ranges from about $10-20.

Born in Paris to American parents, “tremendously gifted” (LA Times) pianist-composer Dan Tepfer has translated his bi-cultural identity into an exploration of music that ignores stylistic bounds. His 2011 Goldberg Variations / Variations, whichpairs his performance of Bach’s work with improvised variations of his own, has received broad praise as a “riveting, inspired, fresh musical exploration” (NewYork Times). He has worked with the leading lights in jazz, including extensively with saxophone luminary Lee Konitz, while releasing seven albums asa leader.
time:18:00 onwards
$$: 5-10euro by donation for the entry fee.
Two groups of the Berlin-based musicians will provide you a tour in their studios to show where and how they work with their talents. After that, there will be an interview about their creative process on experimental music and the Berlin-based independent music record label Aut Records. Moreover, in order to experience the true underground music scene in Berlin, you will enjoy an experimental music gig at night (there’s always something happening every night) with these musicians. Or luckily, you might even see a gig performed by themselves.
The Akvariet Trio is formed by pianist Rieko Okuda(Japan), bassist Antti Virtaranta (Finland) and drummer Wieland Möller (German). The trio is deeply rooted in jazz and in free improvisation and presents music full of melodic beauty, rhythmic intensity and exuberant enthusiasm for playing. The unconventional variety of forms, bubbly rhythms and lyrically flowing tunes of their compositions reflect natural causes, travel experiences, meeting people, landscape impressions and dreams.

Born in Florence, Stefano is an electronic music producer now resident in Berlin. He is a collaborator of AUT Records. He is constantly interested in exploring new approaches, in terms of creating atmospheres, listening and understanding the nature. His recent projects: "Raccoglimento Parziale" with Andrea Giachetti define as the result of the quest forharmony between shapes and personalities apparently incompatible which arebelonging to the same timeless and spaceless structure;"Silent People" with the drummer Giampaolo Camplese, a research about the imaginary underground silence.

Aut Records is a record label dedicated to experimental and research music. Founded in 2010 by saxophone player Davide Lorenzon, Aut Records is now directed by hima longside electronic musician Bob Meanza. It aims to describe a musical environment that cannot be assigned to a particular genre, and is removed from any specific musical language. The main goal is to promote projects concerning unusual sonorities. The founders and their musicians believe that any positive result derives from a research off the beaten tracks, deviations from the mainstream, which is often a sterile environment if conceived as the onlypossible solution.
