FBIF2019: Gaining New Momentum from Open Innovation
▲ Follow us and "Sticky On Top"
We are in the second half of 2018. What impressed you most in food & beverage industry?
After years’ decelerated growth, food and beverage industry has finally ushered in the upgrading of consumption and a rebound in market growth. With market landscape speeding up its changing, the traditional closed innovation gradually becomes behind the times. All the cases of traditional giants teaming up with innovative products brands or ventures at home and abroad remind us of the increased complexity of future innovation. Yes, the innovation in future is the open innovation.
In the constantly changing food industry, the unceasing competition between food giants and food startups has aroused the vitality of innovation. In order to follow the new consumption concept and exploit the demand for sub-categories, in addition to the internal innovation to drive development, more and more food giants choose open innovation, resorting to external forces to achieve enterprise transformation, growth or even future deployment. Faced with the aggressive emerging food startups, food giants begin to launch bold and resolute M&As and incubator programs. Yes, Food & Money is the trend around the corner.
FBIF never skips any change in the food & beverage industry.
From 2014 to 2018, the annual FBIF has been held five times, with the number of participants increasing from 250+ in 2014 to 2000+ in 2018, almost eight times growth (and continuing with the growth rate of 69% every year). The proportion of clients from brand owners has reached up to 56%. Industry insiders now praised FBIF as the “Food Davos”! In the past five years, we’ve witnessed with you the decelerated growth of the food industry, the transformation of traditional companies under this circumstance and the rising of a great many new categories and innovative startups. This year, we’ll continue to witness with you the upgrading of consumption and the rebound in market growth. The innovation outlook changes constantly, but FBIF will explore the innovation path with you.

Product Innovation
Dairy products, beverages and snacks are the permanent focus of discussion in Product Innovation sub-forum. Heated topics will be presented, including drinkable yogurt, plant-based drinks, craft beer and energy bars. Meanwhile, we introduce new topics based on hotspots every year. This year, the new topic is about super ingredients—a new category with powerful growth potential. We hope to help companies that have used or will use the super ingredients to better grasp the new opportunities.

Food & Money
With continually changing consumption factors, the F&B industry is experiencing transformation. Cases of investment and financing illustrate parts of the picture in the industry. According to data from market research consultancy CB Insights, the number of investors participating in the food and beverage sector has gradually increased since 2013. The latest two years have witnessed a more than 88% growth in annual average financing amount. Apart from venture capital funds and private equity firms, this also includes more VC funds from major food corporations.
With food startups rising aggressively and food giants launching their food deals or incubator programs, the olive branch from a friendly capital market has made the investment and financing in the industry hit its prime. Therefore, we, in strategic collaboration with the food entrepreneur focused media FoodPlus, specially add Food & Money sub-forum during FBIF2019 sessions to discuss with you the current status and the future of food startups and investment.

Cannot wait to participate? Or still wonder?
1. Your forum seems great. Would speakers on the agenda all come over? Do we have the chance to give a live speech? Actually, I have been invited for many times.
First of all, thanks for your acceptance. It’s not easy for FBIF to be entitled as “Food Davos”. The first step we take is to put the verified speakers down in the agenda and ensure what you see on the agenda is what you get on site. In recent two years, the number of our speakers and juries has been stable at around 120. However, there were always some unexpected yet inevitable incidents, causing one or two speakers unable to attend, such as breakdown of transportation system (we’ve even encountered volcanic eruption, forest fires and airplane pilots’ strikes.) In this case, we would confirm with substitutes timely, update the electronic edition of the agenda, inform everyone in advance and explain this episode on site.
Regarding speeches, if you have strong strategic awareness, adequate and innovative cases, abundant insights and a firm and steady stage presence, you are more than welcome to join! However, we have the strictest requirements on contents and speaker candidates. You’d better be well-prepared in advance.
2. What types of companies and what departments of people are involved at FBIF? Can I meet with high-level managers at the meeting?
That is a good question. Please see the chart of attendee analysis at FBIF2018 and you’ll probably find the answer.
