Org. Setting and Reporting


The position is located in the Russian Language Unit, UN News Section I of the News and Media Division which produces news and feature stories on multimedia platforms including radio, video, photo and web. The minimum duration of this internship is three (3) months. This period can be extended up to a total period of six (6) months, pending the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Russian Unit, UN News Section II.


Responsibilities


The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with radio and multimedia functions, specifically in the researching of analytics and metrics as related to news production, digital audio, video recording, editing, and social media.


Functions will include:


-assist in researching and analyzing information on assigned topics/issues.

-gather information from diverse sources

-help to assess news value and other potential impact

-help to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns

Education


To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Public Information, the following conditions must be met:


1. Applicants must:


(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;


2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar;


3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and


4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


Work Experience


No professional work experience required.


Languages


English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this internship advertised, fluency in English Russian is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
