Cover Story

The two-impurity Kondo model is a classic model that describes the competition between Kondo screening and RKKY coupling for two local moments, and it is also a critical step between the single-site Kondo system and the Kondo lattice. The cover reveals a new experimental realization of the two-impurity Kondo model and Kondo lattice, in a self-assembled ordered phase (illustrated by the zero-energy tunneling conductance map at the bottom) of potassium (green circles) doped single-layer para-sexiphenyl (white colored molecular structure) films. The relative strength between Kondo screening and RKKY coupling changes with varying molecular spacing, thus enabling the drawing of a complete experimental phase diagram that demonstrates the continuous evolution from a Kondo singlet state to an antiferromagnetic singlet state (See the article (No. 246811) by Wei Chen et al.).
