For over a year now, Kaos has been a proud, formless mish-mash of subcultures in the Chinese underground. Celebrating any and all forms of art and music, the last Friday of the month is certainly the place to be, to let your hair down and let a little chaos unfold.

Here at C’s we love grimy bands- and sweating and jumping and pushing, but we’ve also had the honor of plugging in many synthesizers for dissonant echoes into our smeared labyrinth. So for KAOS 13, we’re celebrating synths and synthists- through hip hop, folktronica, and gothic EBM. Holding down the decks there after we’ve got Lobito, Hope, and Gargoyle Girlfriend.

After growing up playing saxophone in school arthur took a long break from playing musical instruments, or making music, until downloading ableton in 2018. As a record collector and hip hop head, arthur Idolized the legends DJ Premier, Just Blaze and Alchemist. Something about the gritty drums, layered samples and dusty records spoke to him. Now 3 years into his musical journey arthur is developing his style and sound. Equipped with his trusty sp404 he’s looking to connect with the Shanghai music scene and collab on future projects。

Poison the Vicar
Poison the Vicar is an American artist based in Shanghai, blending the bass lines of E.B.M. with the viseral appeal of industrial and the craftsmanship of darkwave.
Poison the Vicar writes from a personal place of trauma and the frustrations of humanities lack of empathy. The songs often give vindication to those who have not found it themselves.
Poison the Vicar has worked with artists post industrial artist Corrosive Candy, pop industrial artist Ryder Houston, and the prince of modern E.B.M., William Maybelline of Qual and Lebanon Hanover.
The song "Wedding Wings" will be released on the Darkness Calling compilation available on Bandcamp October 31st. All proceeds will go to Trevor Project. A hotline that provides help to suicidal queer youth.
Poison the Vicar是一位居住于上海的美国艺术家，他把EBM的低音线条与工业的黑暗浪潮的结合在一起。
Poison the Vicar曾与很多艺术家合作过，Ryder Houston, William Maybelline以及著名乐队 Lebanon Hanover.
这首“Wedding Wings”将于10月31日在Bandcamp上发布。所有收益都将捐给Trevor Project项目，这是一个为自杀的同性恋青年提供帮助的热线电话项目。
Gargoyle Girlfriend
Gargoyle Girlfriend, the solo moniker of [Rachel McInerney] is an American born visual artist, producer, DJ, and post-punk enthusiast based in Shanghai. After graduating art school in Pennsylvania and haunting enough basement shows, she made her move to Shanghai in 2018 and went on to collaborate in pop punk emo band [Fliphouse], doing vocal work for its second studio album and touring with them across china in 2021. Eager to fuse post-punk, cold-wave, shoe-gaze and techno, she formed the band [Snuff Disco] in quarantine with two members from Fliphouse, where they went on to develop a club-friendly live act of dark synth infused melodic post punk. Her solo work is a folkish delve into strange metaphysical lands and narratives, with an 80's synth wave essence and a dark and ominous undertone.
Rachel McInerney绰号Gargoyle Girlfriend是一位来自美国的视觉艺术家，制作人，DJ。现居于上海的她也是一名后朋克的狂热爱好者。毕业于在宾夕法尼亚一所艺术学校的她观看了无数的地下表演。于是，在2018年移居上海后，她开始和硬核情绪派的流行朋克乐队（Flip house）合作乐队第二张录音室专辑的声乐作品，并于2021年在中国和乐队一起进行巡演。渴望将后朋克，冷潮(cold wave)盯鞋（Shoegaze） 和工业电子（techno）结合在一起的她在隔离期间和Flip house的两位成员一起组建了一个乐队（Snuff disco)。他们创作出了适合于夜店的暗黑风格旋律后朋克的现场表演。
With other local shanghai Djs, she formed KAOS: Art In The Underground in early 2020, an art collective of alternative artists, bands, djs and vendors, with events at the end of each month, which houses the electronic style blends of coldwave, dance ebm, gothwave and progressive techno deep into the early hours.

Lobito is a DJ from the USA, co-founder of the Movement 动作 music collective. He started to DJ in college because he enjoys performing in front of a bunch of people, listening to music he really likes really loud. Lobito is always looking for fresh sounds, transcendent tracks and new inspiration to move you.
