EatForCharity Successfully Launches EARLY ACCESS

EatForCharity ShekouDaily 2020-09-13

On Monday February 17th, EatForCharity launched its 'Early Access' phase via ShekouDaily. We reached our first 100 users within 12 hours and have received some great feedback. Within 24 hours we broke 200 users, received even more feedback, zero complaints to date, and all the restaurants in our platform got plenty of real world experience fulfilling customers' orders, delivering their delicious food, and helping charities in their fundraising efforts.

We're happy to report that we received some great suggestions for improvements and were even able to identify a few bugs that we've fixed with your help.

Please keep the feedback coming! Even if you're not placing orders yet, we'd love to hear your comments and or suggestions for improvement. Together we will make this a fantastic platform that serves our community well while helping charities!

Summary of Feedback and Fixes So Far

Fixed the delivery distance calculator

Some people mentioned that the delivery distance calculated was off by a few hundred meters or more; which in some cases put them outside of the available delivery range. We've fixed this and the delivery range is now calculating perfectly. Restaurants can also use our calculator to find the quickest delivery route to get your order to you in the shortest amount of time. In one case, the previous bug allowed someone in Xili to get a pizza delivered from Shekou (15 km) for just 5 rmb. That was one lucky customer! See... there are benefits to using "Early Access" 😀 We did fix that issue and restaurants, like Boathouse and Sims Bakery, are still able to deliver as far as the 20 km delivery range they set.

New Delivery Range Marker

To help people know if they are in a restaurant's delivery range when selecting their address, we added a delivery range marker so people can see it very clearly. Customers also don't need to worry about not being able to know how to enter their address in Chinese because on EatForCharity, you just set the pin to your building and the map does the rest!

Corrected some Chinese translation issues

Thanks to some of our Chinese users who were able to identify some minor translation issues, we fixed some strangely formatted language in the Chinese version of the site.

Did you know that EatForCharity is currently available in English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Russian? We also have plans to add Japanese, French and German in the near future!

NEW Automatic Language Detection Feature

Some users had mentioned that they either didn't notice that they could change the language, or found the language-selector a bit counter-intuitive. As a result, we're adding a feature that automatically detects the default language of your device and automatically displays EatForCharity in that language! We're almost finished so you should be able to enjoy this feature shortly. Of course, you will still be able to switch to English, or any of the other languages we have available, by using the language selector located at the top right corner.

Fixed the 'firstname' and "en route" issues in our SMS notification

EatforCharity sends customers automated notifications throughout the signup and ordering process to keep you informed. Thanks to users who identified a couple of mistakes; such as code for "firstname" appearing in one message and the delivery "en route" notification telling the customer their order was cancelled, we were able to quickly fix these typos.

Willy's Lunch Specials & Buy-1-Get-1-Free Drinks

Fans of Willy's Crab Shack were kind enough to point out that we didn't have their famous lunch special (available Monday-Thursday from 11am to 6pm) or buy-1-get-1-free drinks (Monday-Friday 10am to 10pm) on EatForCharity so we got right on adding them. You can now enjoy Willy's great lunch specials delivered to your doorstep, and we'll have their drinks specials finished by tomorrow.

HH Gourmet Adds their Daily Specials

Matt at HH Gourmet has let us know that he has also updated his menu on EatForCharity to include his great daily specials! Now, each day, you'll see the available special offers right at the top of his menu!

How to give feedback

New Restaurant Additions

The most common question we've been getting is if EatForCharity is only for restaurants in Shekou. The answer is no, any restaurant in China is welcome on EatForCharity. At the moment, most of the restaurants are in Shekou simply because that is where we are located and it was easiest to start with these; however, we've already received over a dozen inquiries from restaurants that want to join EatForCharity so be ready to see many more of your favorites on here soon!

ABOUT EATFORCHARITY

EatForCharity was developed and is managed by the team at ShekouDaily, SHP and friends. Born in the midst of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, EatForCharity is dedicated to supporting charities in their causes while helping consumers get great meals delivered.

The concept is simple... people need to eat. Now, every time someone places an order via EatForCharity to have food delivered to them, a percentage of what they spend will be donated to the charity of their choice without costing the customer any more money.

Next time you're feeling hungry, enjoy your favorite foods while supporting worthwhile causes! Eat Good, Do Good!
