8 Food Delivery Hacks & Tips That'll Make Your Life Easier

EatForCharity ShekouDaily 2020-10-22

The use of food delivery services has been steadily increasing for years and the recent COVID-19 outbreak has made using these services an essential part of life.

For exapts living in Shenzhen, ordering from many of these platforms hasn't always been easy. Luckily, since the COVID-19 outbreak, EatForCharity has been steadily growing and providing expats with an easy way to order their favorite food, drinks, and grocieries online; whether it be for delivery, pick-up, or to dine-in, all while helping to raise money for charities.

Promising users the ability to "Eat Good, Do Good!" the platform; which is available in 7 different languages, gives 25% of the commission it earns from businesses (2% of your order subtotal) to a charity of your choice... at no extra cost to you.

That's right. Every time you order, you get to pick the charity of your choice to receive donations provided by the platform... all while enjoying great deals and offers from your favorite businesses! Eat Good, Do Good!

As with any new app, there are some tricks to knowing how to get the most out of it, so we put together this handy guide with 8 hacks and tips to make your life easier when using EatForCharity.

The easiest way is to scan a QR Code (shown above) to jump directly to the EatForCharity mini-program. If you don't have the code handy, you can search "EatForCharity" in WeChat, or visit their website at EatForCharity.cn

Logging in is different depending on how you access EatForCharity. The process is simple enough though and lets you receive real-time delivery status notifications, save your preferences, and see how much you’ve helped raise for charity.

TIP: If you want to pay via AliPay, you can only do so on their website; not their WeChat mini-program.

NOTE: You can only register using WeChat on the website if you are accessing the website from within WeChat. You can scan the code below using WeChat to access the website.

The app knows what language your device is set to and opens in that language; however, if you need to change your language settings, just click “Mine”; “Settings”, and then; “Language” in the mini-program, or click the image of the flag in the upper-right hand corner of the website.

When you open EatForCharity, you will see results of businesses that can deliver to you; however, depending on how you access EatForCharity, the location they have for you may vary (mobile devices may use GPS to locate you; while laptops and desktops may use your Internet connection's location).  To get more accurate results, you may want to enter your address. To do so, click “Mine”; “My addresses”, and then; “Add address”.

TIP: You can enter and switch between multiple addresses to make it easier to search for and order food for you home, work, or other locations.

IMPORTANT: If you have multiple addresses in your account, be sure you've selected the right one on the "Checkout" page to ensure your order is delivered to the right address.

Searching for businesses or products is simple but remember to scroll down to see the results as they appear lower on the screen.

TIP: For those that prefer to browse, you can jump to specific categories by clicking the “All Cuisines” menu that appears after the "Offers" and "Promotions".

You may get a notice that a business is closed; however, on EatForCharity, that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't order from them. Many merchants offer the ability to pre-order. If so, just select the date/time that you would like to place your order for; whether it's for delivery, pick-up, or dine-in.

A great feature for picky eaters or those with dietary restrictions, is that you can customize the items you order without needing to type special instructions, by simply selecting or de-selecting items.

Watching your delivery driver take a detour to deliver someone else's order can be frustrating. This does happen (sometimes more often than we'd like) in China. At least with the tracking features on EatForCharity, you can see when that happens, know where the driver is, and know when you can expect to receive your order. You can access those by clicking on the order notifications you receive or in your order history.

NOTE: EatForCharity has partnered with Meituan and Dada, China's 1st and 3rd largest food delivery services*, to do deliveries. These two services are integrated directly into the EatForCharity platform to allow for tracking and help get you your orders as quickly as possible. More providers; such as SF (China's 4th largest provider*), are being integrated as well. If there are any problems with your deliveries, please contact EatForCharity Customer Service (contact info below).
