China’s Superwomen: Women Changing Our World for the Better
Green Initiatives has set-off on an arduous journey – perhaps one that has not been undertaken before - of creating a comprehensive list of (almost) all the women social + environmental leaders in our community, who are making a lasting impact in China through their actions – however big or small.
When we set out to write this post we were looking to feature a handful of women who we could remember, as our way of supporting their work. However, as we started writing, we realized that there were so many more that we have come to know and worked with along Green Initiatives' 11-year long journey.
The Fortune 500 list compiled and published annually by Fortune magazine that ranks 500 of the largest US corporations revealed in 2019 that only 6.6% of the organizations had women CEOs. According to the Gender Diversity Index (GDI) released by the 2020 Women on Boards (2020WOB), women corporate directors hold just 20.4% board seats nationally.
Wall street and other media platforms have been celebrating this figure as an all-time record high, while business journals call these a ‘milestone’.
With International Women’s Day here once again, many will glorify a few little achievements while concealing the reality that we touch upon above.
We definitely could not miss highlighting any of these inspiring women who have been working to change our world for the better (men, you need to catch up!).
This is THAT list... in alphabetical order.
Note: There were a dozen others that we would have liked to profile who we reached out to, but either they were unavailable or unable to send us their information within the deadline.
