Congratulations Class of 2022!

The SSIS community gathered online for a heartwarming graduation ceremony for the Class of 2022. On Thursday, 2 June, students, parents, teachers and staff celebrated the learning journey of the Grade 12s, who possessed grit, tenacity and commitment during their senior years.

Graduation

Ceremony

Each graduate received a bag full of graduation memorabilia, and ensured they had their Class of 2022 sashes, caps and personalized IB mugs for the online ceremony, which amplified the graduation spirit.

The Virtual Ceremony

It was a memorable and moving ceremony, with awesome speeches and video highlights that captured our graduates’ journeys from childhood to teen years and adulthood here in SSIS.

During the ceremony, graduates also received Best In and Most Improved In subject awards. Four graduates were presented with the SSIS Orchid Award, which celebrates their learning journey from Grade 1 or earlier, to Grade 12 with the school.

Once a Sabre, Always a Sabre

In his opening remarks, Head of School Mr David SHIRLEY commended the cohort for continuously striving for excellence during their time at SSIS.

Mr David SHIRLEY

Head of School

You have grown in values and today you’re ready for that next exciting step. I encourage you all to be present in each moment.Reflect on your hard work and cherish the relationships you have made – they will last with you for the rest of your life. No matter where you find yourselves in the world, you will always be a part of the Sabres community.

Celebration of Character

Senior School teacher Mr Oscar BECWARIKA spoke on behalf of the entire faculty. He highlighted key moments where students have demonstrated their strength of character. This includes raising awareness for blood donation, helping stray animals find loving homes, giving hope to humanity at homeless shelters and coming up with innovative, creative and exemplary ideas to combat issues of climate change and provide platforms for students to create and innovate.

We – parents, teachers and students – have spent a great deal developing your skills and capabilities which will enable you to matriculate into careers and college. However, I am here to say that your character will sustain you there. So on this incredible journey, you the Class of 2022 and as individuals, have left a legacy of hard work, excellency and good character. You have left indelible memories that we are very proud of as a school.

Focus on the Positives

Valedictorian HOO Xin Yi shared some of her reflections of her senior years, saying that instead of feeling disappointed at missing out on school events and an in-person graduation due to the pandemic, students should focus on the positives

HOO Xin Yi

Valedictorian

We should be reminiscing about the wonderful memories that we created as a group, that we should all feel lucky about. What kept me and most of us going was the constant inflow of dopamine from the support of my peers...As we walk into the unknown called ‘adulthood’, I hope that we will always remember the happy moments and take the bad ones as a lesson and move on.

Every Grade 11 and 12 student that follows you will be grateful for the IB lounge that you were instrumental in proposing, designing and taking stewardship of this year. Your continued contribution and leadership in Sabres sports, Sabres Artists, the student council and service-learning have not only supported our younger students, but also raised expectations. The Build Your Own School (BYOS) initiative has also put SSIS on the virtual reality map!

Saying Goodbye

The special day ended with a joyful and bittersweet event as the Class of 2022 gathered in front of the campus after the virtual ceremony to bid farewell to one another and teachers. Donning their gowns and cap, they drew a sweet ending to their journey at SSIS.
