北京林业大学是教育部直属、教育部与国家林业和草原局共建的全国重点大学，是国家首批“211工程”重点建设高校和国家“优势学科创新平台”建设项目试点高校，是世界一流学科建设高校。学校办学历史可追溯至1902年的京师大学堂农业科林学目。1952年全国高校院系调整，北京农业大学森林系与河北农学院森林系合并，成立北京林学院。70年办学历程中，为国家培养了20余万名高级专门人才和一批外国留学生，其中包括16名两院院士为代表的一大批杰出科技专家和管理人才。
BEIJING FORESTRY UNIVERSITY
Beijing Forestry University is a national first-grade university administered by the Ministry of Education of China，jointly funded by the Ministry of Education and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. It is recognized as the first batch of "211 Project" key construction universities and national "advantageous discipline innovation platform" construction project pilot universities. The history of the university can be traced back to 1902, when the Forestry Department of the Agricultural Division of Imperial University of Peking was established. During its 70 years of operation, the university has cultivated more than 200,000 professionals and a number of overseas students, including a large number of outstanding scientific and technological experts represented by 16 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
园林学院
北京林业大学园林学院肇始于1951年，是中国现代园林教育的发源地。1956年，建立城市及居民区绿化系，标志着中国园林高等教育正式建系并与专业配套；1959年招收研究生，开创了中国风景园林研究生教育之先河；1981年成为全国首个园林规划与设计和园林植物硕士学位授权点；1993年成为首个风景园林学科博士点。
在中国园林领域，我院共产生三名中国工程院院士，亚洲首位世界风景园林行业最高奖（杰弗里·杰里科奖IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award）获得者、中国首个植物品种国际登录权威、中国首位风景园林领域全国工程勘察设计大师和首个国际风景园林师联合会（IFLA）大学生风景园林设计竞赛金奖均来自我院。
在2012教育部全国一级学科评估中风景园林学位列全国第一，在2016年教育部全国一级学科评估中风景园林学获得A+，继续领跑全国；2017年风景园林学协同城乡规划学、建筑学进入国家“世界一流学科建设”行列，2018年入选北京市与中央高校共建一流学科名录；2018年风景园林学开展国内首次同类学科国际评估，9位国际评估专家一致认为：“当前北京林业大学风景园林学科已达到国际高水平地位，享有国际盛誉并产生了相当的国际影响力，在中国具有强有力的领导地位。北京林业大学园林学院是世界上规模最大的风景园林教学科研机构，是世界上唯一以风景园林为核心，引领建筑、城市规划、区域规划、观赏园艺、旅游规划及管理的学院。”
学院目前设有风景园林、园林、城乡规划、园艺（观赏园艺方向）、旅游管理五个本科专业，其中风景园林、园林和园艺（观赏园艺方向）为国家级一流本科专业建设点。具有风景园林学（工学和农学两个学科门类）一级学科博士学位授予权，风景园林学（工学和农学两个学科门类）、建筑学、城乡规划学一级学科硕士授予权，风景园林硕士专业学位授予权，风景园林学博士后流动站。
SCHOOL OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
Originated from 1951，the School of Landscape Architecture of Beijing Forestry University serves as the birthplace of modern landscape education in China. The School established the Department of Urban and Residential Greening in 1956, marking the formal establishment of higher education in landscape architecture in China. It subsequently and started enrolling graduate students in 1959, and initiated the first doctoral program in landscape architecture of China in 1993.
The School of Landscape Architecture has brought out three academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering in landscape architecture field, the first Asian recipient of Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award, China's first national engineering survey and design master in landscape architecture filed and the first Gold Medal in the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Student Landscape Architecture Design Competition.
The School ranked first in the national first-class discipline assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2012, and received A+ in the national first-level discipline assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2016. In 2018, the School of Landscape Architecture launched the first international assessment of landscape architecture discipline in China, and agreed by the international assessment experts that“Landscape Architecture at Beijing Forestry University has ambitious goals and occupies a strong leadership position in China. BFU offers the largest and most comprehensive provision of landscape architecture in China. It is the only School in the world where Landscape Architecture is the lead discipline for Landscape Design, Architecture, Urban Planning, Regional Planning. It is the largest school in the world in terms of faculty and students.”
There are currently five undergraduate majors in the School of Landscape Architecture: Landscape Architecture, Landscape Gardening, Urban and Rural Planning, Horticulture (ornamental horticulture) and Tourism Management, of which Landscape Architecture, Landscape Gardening and Horticulture (ornamental horticulture) are classified as national first-class undergraduate majors.
