我们理解整个文明世界对俄罗斯的仇恨;
我们理解制裁是逃避第三次世界大战的唯一途径;

A letter from Moscow, written by my dear friend and colleague Ekaterina Lazareva, Senior Researcher at the State Institute of Art Studies:
Dearest friends and colleagues!
This is a letter from hell. From the lowest part, which is deathly cold and much deeper, than the hot one in Ukraine. I’m in Moscow, in the middle of the unbelievable crime against people in Ukraine, but also in Russia, the crime against all human values that we considered common after World War II. Like too many people in Russia I feel huge shame and anger to find my country a mad aggressor, and as many Russian citizens I recognize our guilt and responsibility for the war.
You can’t imagine the measure of vile lie that is spreading from media controlled by the state, repressions and the terror against those who dares to speak loud. Almost one million people have already signed the Anti-War Petition and many professional communities have launched open letters against the war, risking being fired from their working places. It is forbidden to call it ‘war’, and officially museums and cultural institutions protest against ‘tragedy’ and ‘conflict’. The Art & Culture Workers Letter is signed by 12.000 people by now (the list is updated). Today many Russian cities will see the anti-war processions, whose participants risk getting arrested as 3.000 people previously and can be judged, that will prohibit them to work in universities for example.
Unfortunately, too many people in Russia are disoriented by state propaganda and keep silent. But we won’t stop fighting here for the sake of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters and against the absolute evil we have in power in the Kremlin. This is our fault that we didn’t unite and organized a decisive protest before. We understand the hatred against Russia from all the civilized world, we understand that the sanctions are the only way to escape the Third World War, we know we will be isolated for an uncertain period. I don’t know if we can keep in touch via e-mails or social networks either.
Just in case this is the last letter, please, know we were against this terrible regime.
Sincerely yours,
”Čtěte prosím dopis z Ruska. Navzdory represím tam tisíce lidí z kulturní sféry protestují proti agresi. Jejich vyhlídky do příštích dní jsou strašné. Jsou v temné jámě.
