Job title: Media Monitoring Officer

Role Description
This is a role focusing on information monitoring, gathering and visualization. The role will be part of a team that develops insights for internal users from information that is publicly accessible in China. S/he will help the ICRC Regional Delegation to better understand its external environment and changes that may impact the organization's activities and its reputation. S/he will support ICRC colleagues develop their understanding of online communities on topics related to their areas of expertise. S/he reports to the Head of information analysis & research unit and support the unit provide relevant analysis which contribute to better informed decisions of the delegation.
Media Monitoring Officer supports delegation decision-making by monitoring and analyzing information from a variety of public sources in line with the delegation's priorities.
S/He monitors the e-reputation of the ICRC and National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society and provides support in time of crisis with regular and ad hoc reports.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Identifies and monitors a variety of public sources that are relevant for the ICRC on issues related to the ICRC main objectives.
Monitors the visibility of the ICRC and National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society in China and alerts on potential reputation issues.
Reports efficiently and succinctly on the selected information by providing quantitative and qualitative analysis and a description of the dynamics observed in public sources.
Monitors traditional and social Chinese media on issues of interest for the delegation.
Helps develop the unit's capacity to monitor and reports on conversations relevant to the ICRC's environment in Chinese social media.
Supports the Head of Unit to help the unit provide analysis and perspectives which contribute to better informed decisions of the delegation.
Contributes to the writing of the regional delegation's summary, analysis and research on agreed domestic, regional and international political, social and humanitarian issues for the delegation.
Provides support to programs and activities of the delegation's COM and other departments with the guidance and supervision from the Head of Unit.
In times of crisis, adapts monitoring and reporting to support the delegation's priorities and challenges.
Desired Profile and Skills
University degree or professional qualification in communication, information or social sciences.
Certified experience in online information searching, filtering and evaluating.
At least two-year work experience in communication, with previous experience in social media and mainstream media monitoring and analysis.
Knowledge of and experience with various professional social media and mainstream media monitoring tools.
Strong web-based research skills and data analysis & visualization skills mainly for social media monitoring.
Fluent in spoken and written Chinese and English; Good verbal and written communication skills.
Confirmed capacity to analyze political, social and humanitarian issues.
Good understanding of Chinese traditional media and social media landscape and genuine interest in current affairs.
Knowledge of the humanitarian and/or international relations field is an asset.
