【Storyland营业中】A Brand New Start! 线上线下创作不停
两周前的4月15日，星球春季常规学期工作坊正式起航。前几天Storyland Senior Head Teacher Marc给星球家长们写了一封信，信里他写到：
For many students reading has meant the opportunity to travel to distant lands, embark on epic quests and expand their minds far beyond the walls that have kept them safe over the past couple months. Those benefits, in the best and worst of times, are immeasurable.
无论什么时候，星球都在通过阅读、写作、思辨和表达，带领孩子们去往文化和思维的远方。
于是，在即将到来的五月份，我们又又又要推出新的线上工作坊了！

Novel Reading Club
Storyland Novel Club gives students an introduction into the literary discussion and analysis that occurs in Storyland’s higher level literature classes. With the same objectives in mind, this workshop aims to further each student’s ability to discover deeper meanings within texts, as well as challenge them to make connections between their book, themselves, series books, or the world at large. The emphasis here is to go beyond mere comprehension, focusing instead on the critical thinking skills that allow readers to analyze, form insightful opinions and discuss these critical opinions with other readers.
We will start from Rahl's series - Pop 3， students will be introduced to the Arthur in the first class, where main themes and discussion points for the entire book will be introduced, and early passages from the book will be read together, with critical thinking skills modeled along the way. Students will then to read the entire book, while thinking about the suggested themes and independently implementing the modeled critical thinking skills.
The final project that student will write their “my story with Roald Dahl's favorite Themes (Child narrators, Audule Villains).

Online Musical
It breaks our heart to hear that so many theatre performances have been postponed or cancelled during the COVID virus situation. Why not arrange an ONLINE show?
The artists wrote this musical in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as a way for actors to work together as an ensemble to put on a show – while staying safe in their own homes.
The writing team realized early on that the format of a traditional musical would not work remotely (group singing on Zoom is a disaster), so they built the show from the ground up. They considered what kids and drama teachers are going through at this time and worked those themes into each scene – including the antics and technical mayhem that comes with performing a musical online. The result is a comedic and fun storyline designed to lift spirits when we all need it the most.
We hope kids enjoy this special musical and can’t wait to see our shows go online!
During this interactive WS students will work with the new skills of adapting their vocal, acting and expressing skills to online/virtual reality. Apart from being very interesting and useful for communication and self-development teaching experiment, class stands on strong foundations and basis of classical musical education and theatre studies techniques and knowledge.

FAQ & Credit
1. What is the size of the cast?
The orignal show is written for 20 actors, plus the drama teacher， but we have changed into 8 actors, plus the Drama teaher.
2. What age is this geared toward?
This was written for performers age 7-14.
3. How long is the Workshop?
11 times in total & 1.5hours, once a week. Lesson 11 will be the performance show.
4. How do the students film their part?
The students can use a webcam if they have a laptop, or any smartphone video camera.
5. Do I as a parent have permission to upload the final performance publicly?
Yes, as long as you don’t monetize the video with commercial ads and provide proper credit in the description mentioning us Storyland.
6. Since I pay to join the show, can I pass it along to my other teacher friends so they can perform it with their own group? Or can my child share the script and music with other friends so they can upload their own performance?
No, this would violate the terms and conditions of the agreement. All materials must stay within the students of Storyland. You may not post any of the production materials on any public sites.
