2021 Summer Artist-in-Residence Launch——
On the 19th of June, Planet P8 officially announced the open call for the summer 2021 art residency ‘Invisible Sound’, and on the 8th of July, we announced the additional recruitment plan for this art residency. In addition to the original residency site inBROAD Town, Changsha. We set up a sub-residency at the Yunhe Centre in the aboriginal habitation of Jiarong Tibetans, aiming to explore the ecological process of sound and its interaction with human activities through artistic intervention in the original soundscape environment, and to explore a multi-dimensional perspective for this residency.
Since the launch of the calling programme, we have received applications from artists from over a dozen different countries and regions. The artists uphold an interdisciplinary mode of practice. Their works and proposals reflect the panoramic nature of the social soundscape in terms of bio-ecology, digital technology, cultural language, sound rights, audiovisual experimentation, sound ontology and architectural space. After several rounds of discussions, the project team finally decided on 11 artists/groups to participate in this residency, of which 6 artists/groups will participate remotely, 2 artists who were scheduled to participate in the residency at P8 in Changsha will participate in the residency remotely due to the prevention and control of the epidemic and will come to P8 to set up the exhibition once the epidemic has subsided. 2 artists will participate in the sub-residency at the Yunhe Centre. For this art residency, Planet P8 has specially invited guest advisors from the field of sound art and local technical support, hoping to give the artists a rich space for research, exchange, and discussion.
On the 2nd of August, P8 held an online launch event for the Summer 2021 AIR program, where the project organisers and partners expressed their sincere thanks and warm welcome to all the participating artists, guest advisors and technical supporters. The artists and guest advisors and technical supporters elaborately prepared their introductions. The launch event was the first collective meeting of the group and the official opening of the P8 2021 Summer Artist-in-Residence.
