Yesterday, People’s Youth Daily announced that children between the ages of 3-11 will now be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, following last week's news regarding vaccines for foreign teens aged 12-17. Currently, the announcement is for Chinese residents only and does not include information as to when foreign passport-holding children in this age group will be able to receive theirs.
The announcement highlights the importance of vaccinations, especially for students, since schools and kindergartens are considered densely populated environments.
The plan is for schools and kindergartens to arrange vaccinations for their students. The children will receive their vaccine following a doctor’s evaluation and under the accompaniment of at least one legal guardian who’ll need to sign a consent form. Legal guardians will need to bring a valid ID and the child’s Vaccination Certificate on the day.
According to People's Youth Daily’s report, children are not recommended to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time as other vaccinations and should wait at least 14 days between shots. The article continues to emphasize that children who have previously been infected with Covid should still be vaccinated and can receive the first shot six months after infection.
To help put numbers into perspective, as of Oct 27, Beijing has reportedly administered a total of 42,503 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and a total of 20,472,100 people have been vaccinated.
