Chinese New Year Greetings

Do you hear that? Chinese New Year is knocking on the door! Whether you’re joining your Chinese friend’s or spouse’s family for this merry festival, or simply just want to exchange greetings with people you bump into meanwhile, get yourself equipped with some commonly-used greeting expressions beyond 新年好 xīn nián hǎo (Happy New Year), and prepare for the wows and probably hongbaos you will get (smirk face sticker inserted)!
The expressions are specific for different age ranges and occupations. For every greeting you can start with 祝你 zhù nǐ or 祝您 zhù nín. Both mean “may you”, but the latter is more respectful and usually used to elders or peers who are new acquaintances.
May you have a happy Chinese New Year!
