Taobao Hack: Using Photos To Search And Shop
Advertisement
Ah, Taobao, our indispensable shopping tool when you live in China. You might have the occasional bad experience, some subpar ones, and plenty of confusing ones (where you end up being XXXL according to the measurements) but it's for the cheap and good experiences that we keep using this convenient app.
While Taobao works predominantly in Chinese, you are able to search for popular items and brands in English, though results can be limited. Here's where searching by photographs might be way easier on you than trying to translate "goth girl costumes" into Chinese.
Check out our 1-minute quick video guide below on how to effectively shop on TaoBao using photographs!
While the video demonstrates image searching by a saved image, you can also search by taking a live photograph of say, that oh-so-cute pair of shoes your friend is wearing to tea.
PRO TIP: Make sure the images you use to search are well-lit and clear; a low-res picture may not turn up accurate results if any at all.
