From working in globally respected food cities like London, Paris, and New York, Belgian national (and father of three) Ignace Leclair has been striving in the food and beverage industry since the age of 16. Now, after this long journey, he has set foot in China‘s capital is a part of that new wave of food connoisseurs driving this thriving culinary industry in the city.
Known in Beijing as one of the hardest working people in F&B, Leclair is the proud owner of TRB, Hulu, and Peach. With multiple locations all over the city, it’s needless to say that Leclair has got a full plate on his hands and keeps himself busy 24/7.
What’s On Your Mind?
It has been quite dramatic few weeks with mixed feelings. On the positive side, it had been great that I was able to spend some quality time again with my family, trying to keep ourselves and the kids entertained creatively at home. Yet, I was worried about the safety of my TRB team and the business as it’s definitely a huge downfall since lockdown.
What’s Your Motivation To Get Moving?
From a personal point of view, the side of myself that enjoys accepting challenges have risen during this period. Business wise, I’ve learned to live it up with the difficulties and overcome them in a creative way with a positive attitude despite the circumstances. It was also very lucky of me to have walked through this epidemic as an experience to re-structure and strengthen my company at such young stage of its existence.
What Keeps You Sane In All The Madness?
As a restauranteur, I’ve been trained to stay zen and positive to any given circumstances the past years. I am a strong believer now that out of the depth of misfortune comes bliss and now here we can finally embrace the brand new era with an open heart.
Now that restaurants are reopening, what can we look forward to at Peach and Hulu?
At Peach, we are still keeping our tradition of Wednesday Burger Day & Friday Fish & Chips Day (RMB 28) as always.
As for Hulu, the special Christmas menu will be launched starting Dec 13 to 28. And at TRB, the Christmas & NYE menu are already available now!
What are your wishes for the new year - professionally and personally?
Personally, I wish nothing but good health for everyone. Professionally, I am excited to see how not only my company but the entire industry will be able to develop and grow in a sustainable way to cope with the new post-covid era.
