The Jing Educator Awards 2023 honors those who have made outstanding contributions in the noble field of molding the next generation. Before the formal awards presentation ceremony at the 2023 Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) on March 11 and 12, let's meet the nominees from the various schools and get to know them a little better.

Beijing City International School

 Tom Egerton
Head of School

Tom was born in Australia and spent his formative years in Papua New Guinea before relocating to Australia. A practical teaching experience in Fiji and commonwealth teacher exchange in England instilled in him the desire to become an international educator. Since then, over a period of 30 years, Tom has served schools in Australia, Singapore, The Philippines, Myanmar, and Germany as a teacher, principal and head of school. Tom has a B.Ed. and two M.Ed. degrees in education. Tom believes that the rapid changes in society make it more important than ever for schools to take a future-focused approach to education.

As Head of School, his first priority lies in laying out a robust, updated strategic plan that enables Beijing City International School to better prepare its students for the future. This strategic plan revolves around three key points: personalizationcollaboration and leadership. Under the new plan, Beijing City International School will clearly encourage and develop leadership in each and everyone, staff, students, and the broader community. Personalization will be visibly at the heart of the learning experience at Beijing City International School.  Beijing City International School will also exhibit a strong ‘team-first’ culture of collaboration, with high levels of trust, transparency and mutual respect, and with clear values, investing in the time, space and skills that empower teams to take the lead on projects that will define the school for years to come.

IDEATE Coordinator

Jaclyn grew up in Memphis, Tennessee in the southeastern United States, where she developed her love of live music and barbecue and her passion for social justice. Gaining her teaching credentials through Teach For America, Jaclyn taught mathematics in the United States for 5 years before moving to Lima, Peru. There she taught mathematics and humanities and served as an instructional coach for 5 years.

She joined YueCheng Education as a Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Specialist in the YueCheng Education Research Institute. She is now working as IDEATE coordinator. Jaclyn believes that education is the biggest lever for making the world a better place for all – safer, healthier, kinder, and more just and equitable. She is passionate about students developing the skills and mindsets to become curious, risk-taking, reflective people who are self-aware, compassionate agents of change. She tries to live her life according to her principles for education, asking questions, researching, making connections, considering implications of choices, taking purposeful action, and doing so in collaboration with others. She loves the continual challenge and inspiration that comes from being an educator who seeks growth and connection.
