How HD Beijing School Educators Ensure "Success For Each"

The Jing Educator Awards 2023 honors those who have made outstanding contributions in the noble field of molding the next generation. Before the formal awards presentation ceremony at the 2023 Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) on March 11 and 12, let's meet the nominees from the various schools and get to know them a little better!
Brad Orr,
Executive Principal of Secondary School
Brad is from the United States and has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Davidson College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of South Carolina. For over 20 years in his career of education, he has worked as a teacher, instructional coach and Assistant Principal in New York City, USA and China and designed and led the development of a K-12 dual-language program at a Vietnamese international school. He most recently served as the Director of the Center for Student Development at a renowned private school in Beijing where he oversaw a team of educational specialists to support students' academic and socio-emotional growth.
From the United States to China, from front-line teaching to student support management, Principal Brad has nearly 20 years of teachingand management experience in international schools. As a principal, Mr. Orr understands the psychology of young people and is good at communicating with students. He has solid academic teaching and research skills, as well as excellent and efficient management skills. He gives students personalized guidance and support at all times at HDBJ Secondary, to solve the challenges they encounter as they grow up.
Victoria Yang,
Principal of Secondary School
Victoria is from the United States, with a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree in education and sociology. She has IB administrator training certificate, and specializes in ESL teaching. She formerly served as the High School Principal at American International School Vietnam. During over 15 years in education, she has worked as instructional coach and Assistant Principal in New York City, and led education programs for private English education companies and schools in China.
Victoria is passionate about finding innovative ways to make knowledge engaging and accessible for all students and is committed to creating, contributing and leading dynamic and collaborative communities of learning.
Victoria adheres to the original intention of "Success for each". She leads and builds the personalized education model in HDBJ Secondary with unique HD characteristics. Her belief: "I want to lead each of my students to success, but this success is defined by themselves, not in the eyes of others." Outside of the classroom, she is the person who understands them best in the hearts of the students, and she is the first personstudents want to talk to when they encounter difficulties.
Zhaoyun Hu,
Lower Secondary Academic Dean
Mr. Hu holds Teji/Zhenggao Teaching Qualification (Top level in Chinese Secondary Qualification System) and is the Core Member of the Editing Team for the Beijing Normal University Edition of Middle School Mathematic-Student and Teacher's Book, and a Member of the Expert Group of the National High School Entrance Examination. He has been awarded as the Advanced Individual Contributor in Education and Scientific Research by Zhejiang Province, and the Excellent Teacher and Principal Trainer and Instructor.
His "Discovering Mathematics" teaching model triggered a revolution in mathematics education and broke the traditional framework of mathematics teaching - No preview, no massive quizzes - his unconventional mathematics teaching has increased students’ mathematics capability steadily.
Mr. Hu always emphasizes: "Mathematics is not taught by me, but learned by students themselves through discovery". He insists on teaching in person, which has also deeply influenced other teachers that teachers can encourage students to think like a mathematician, and cultivate children's ability to discover and solve problems. This is the power of innovation and the true purpose of math learning.
