Stubborn apartment block owner makes urban planners switch plans

We've seen many a "nail house" come and go over the years, but how about a "nail apartment block?"

Urban planners in the northeastern city of Harbin ran into a bit of snag recently while constructing a thoroughfare designed to alleviate traffic problems in a new district of the city. Though the major avenue was supposed to have ten lanes, those plans have been scrapped for the time being after the owner of the old apartment block refused to sell.

Instead, planners have opted for a pair of symmetrical two-lane roads which snake around the apartments. Scenic, perhaps. But not so functional.

After curling around the buildings, you are then deposited straight into this clusterfuck of an intersection.
