In a competition with his colleagues, a man in Yunnan province managed to somehow suck down 117 lemon slices, earning himself 5,000 yuan — a tidy sum that still seems not nearly enough compensation for the pain he must have suffered.

The cruel contest took place on Monday during a year-end company party in Kunming, Yunnan province. Following his historic win, the worker was asked how he was feeling.

“My lips and tongue are covered in blisters,” he responded. “But I’m still very happy.”

He added that he planned on laying off lemons for a while, at least until after the beginning of the Chinese New Year, but noted that he was a big fan of “strong-tasting food.”

While one lemon a day may be good for you, it’s strongly recommended that you not go overboard— like say by consuming over 100 in a single sitting — as lemons are highly acidic and can erode your tooth enamel.

Meanwhile, adults should not consume more than 2,000 mg of vitamin C per day, at the risk of diarrhea and kidney stones. The average lemon contains more than 50 mg of vitamin C. A fact that makes us worry a bit about our winner’s health.

“He’ll need that 5,000 yuan at the hospital to treat his teeth and stomach,” wrote one Weibo user.
