After suffering from a heart attack outside of a railway station on Saturday afternoon, one man had the presence of mind to reach for his wallet.

While coughing up blood onto the ground, the man also began scattering around 100-yuan notes, trying desperately to attract the attention of passersby before it was too late.

Fortunately, a police officer surnamed Lin patrolling outside the Shijiazhuang Railway Station in Hebei province did notice the man in distress and came over to see what the problem was. At first, Lin says that he thought the man was drunk, but quickly realized how serious the situation was when he saw the blood.

The man couldn’t speak a word to Lin, but in his hand he held a bottle of medicine. Lin called in for help and then fed the man the medication.

After a few minutes, the man started to feel better. Medical workers arrived to check on him, and let him go after finding that his blood pressure had returned back to normal.

In the meantime, the man told Lin that he was in Shijiazhuang on business and was rushing back to his home in the seaside city of Qinhuangdao after hearing that his mother had become sick and lost consciousness.

The anxiety caused by his mom’s sudden illness apparently got the better of the man. He said that in the last few years he had gone through two heart surgeries, including one a few months ago in which surgeons had placed a stent inside one of his coronary arteries.

Upon arriving at the railway station, he said that he felt a sharp pain in his chest. As he was rummaging through his bag for his pills, the pain became more severe, nearly paralyzing the man, leaving him unable to open the medicine bottle or even cry out for help.

So he did the next best thing and started scattering cash.
